Why was the Gaza toddler Sky News thread deleted, and which guidelines?

Hi MNHQ
I was just on a thread about a wounded toddler in Gaza but there was a warning from a poster that it would soon be deleted, then lo and behold it was gone. Can you explain which guidelines were breached, as I'm mystified. It was just posters commenting on a story that's on Sky News and elsewhere.

The issue here is, that anything that is either Israeli, Jewish, from Israel is deemed not trustworthy and anything that comes from anywhere else seems to be trustworthy

And that’s a separate conversation in itself but by posting a link to a website that claims the story is fake news, in response to someone asking why a thread about the story was removed, does come across as though you’re pushing the narrative that it’s fake…

Am I

I cant help your interpretation

I saw this thread, wondered about it, googled it and that came up so seemed to suggest thats why it was pulled. Which makes sense

Although as other posters say, theres no point in the other thread remaining if it was just going to descend into 'yes it is, no it isnt'

Whats the point in that?

What @MyThreeWordssaid. I agree that the deletion of the thread was a necessary and justified action by MN.

Agree too, there are other platforms for that kind of content.

logicisall · 28/03/2026 08:13

It's weird. Why do you want to see that stuff so much?

What do you mean about "that stuff"? Now I'm even more confused. Stuff about Gaza? Any disputed stuff?
Is there an unwritten rule that I don't know about regarding the Israel and Gaza conflict? I post regularly on a political thread, currently on Iran/Israel/US, and it's not been pulled when there are negative comments on Israel (or the US, for that matter).

As pp has suggested, it would be good if @MNHQ explained to the uninitiated why the thread was pulled. So I would know which threads to avoid in future.

I dont know why you're banging on about this, threads are pulled all the time

Usually after Ive spent about 5 minutes writing a long, detailed reply using research and links and then poof!!

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 28/03/2026 08:24

I think this thread shows exactly why it was deleted

logicisall · 28/03/2026 08:24

@likelysuspect 😆Now I feel you, as I've never been on a thread that's been pulled before!

Its a bloody nightmare, a nice interesting thread, and I think 'oh I have some expertise here, I'll help the OP', and then after a long winded reply, links to helpful information, well thought out, just press 'post' and it disappears!!!

It's in the rest of the post... Confused?! Hmm

As I said on the other thread before it was deleted, this place is incredibly pro Zionist, and as soon as something is raised about the mistreatment of Palestinians, it will likely be deleted after a healthy dose of overblown outrage from Zionist supporters.

WonderfulSmith · 28/03/2026 09:11

logicisall · 28/03/2026 06:59

From ChatGPT.

✅ Bottom line:

  • The toddler and his injuries appear to be real.
  • But the cause of the wounds (torture vs. shrapnel vs. something else) is disputed and not conclusively proven.

The ball's in your court @MNHQ

Quoting Chat GPT is foolish at best. You might as well quote a parrot.

There are better places for this kind of rhetoric anyway.

EvolvingDoor · 28/03/2026 09:17

How does a warning shot (ie a single bullet fired into the air) create shrapnel moving with sufficient force to injure anyone?

On the contrary, there are many long running threads about Israeli mistreatment of Palestinians.

And a Zionist is someone who believes Jewish people have the right to a nation with self determination in the area of the world we currently know as Israel. Nothing terribly controversial about that is there. Its not an outlying position or the slur you seem to believe it is.

Thank you for proving my point. 🤣

Hello @logicisall thanks for posting - we're looking into this now.

In general, we encourage users to question the accuracy or reliability of sources, but that’s something for discussion on the thread rather than a moderation issue. We don’t remove posts on the basis that the source may be unverified, but we take this on a case-by-case basis.

Personally, I prefer when a poster makes it clear that they have used AI in a comment. More importantly, do you disagree with the AI answer and if so, why?

Unless you meant, not ChatGPT as you prefer another LLM such as Claude, PaLM or Command R, because they bring different and more relevant capabilities to bear on this question?

I strongly disagree with you on the foolishness of using/quoting ChatGPT as I believe that there's a useful place for LLMs in today's world.
Vive la différence!

Disagree all you like, but chatGTP knows nothing about anything, and it certainly isn’t any kind of reliable way to prove anything.

I don’t know what point they are trying to make with that.

It would appear to be you

Its very complementary.

Is it accurate?

I don’t know really. Either way it doesn’t prove the point. ChatGPT is a useful tool but all it does is pull data from various web sources. It’s doesn’t actually know anything.
