Sound - on ads and cutting off my earphones

Today I noticed my music (AirPods) keeps cutting off every time I click on to a new page or thread. I suspect it has something to do with the ads.

I have been meaning to post about the ads anyway because they come up with sound when I’m scrolling through a thread and for the life of me I cannot see how to turn it off or make them automatically silent - I can do this on other sites, why can’t I do it on mumsnet? I should be able to set the ads to be silent unless I click on the speaker icon, not the other way round. Of course I can’t even see a speaker icon... I don’t need loud ads projecting through the tube or bus I am on…

IPhone 15, up to date iOS although this has been happening on the older iOS as well. Not the app, on the webpage.

I had this after an iPhone update. It stopped after later updates and hasn’t happened since. Are you on the very latest update 26.1?

Yes, I’m set to automatic updates but 26.1 cycled though the other day. The ad noise was happening pre and post update, not sure about the ear phones/music cutting off as I don’t normally listen to music if I’m wasting my time on mumsnet (was stretching/leg raises post run and trying to catch up on the Darlington nurses thread)

Hi @Needlesnah - sorry to hear you're having these sound issues. We've had a quick look behind the scenes and it appears that you're on the 26.0 version, not the latest 26.1 update. Please could you have another go at installing the update and see if things are working better once you're on that version?

Aye - I double checked after I replied to JZZ. The update had started but didn’t fully download, which I didn’t realise. I’ve restarted the download and will check if there is an improvement…

I’ve updated to 26.1 on my iPhone 13 mini & I use Safari - I’ve had sound auto playing on 2 ads in 2 days. My immediate reaction is to lunge for the mute or the volume control & it puts me right off the advertiser so I’m certain that’s not the reaction they’re after.
