My homepage layout is absolutely massive now, I've looked for another thread but there was only one from May where the screenshots look like what I have now! It's just so big and hard to navigate, you can only see 2 or 3 posts without scrolling as the beginning of the posts are taking up the screen.
Has anyone else got this recently??

My phone browser takes me to the home page by default, always has

I’m genuinely surprised by this - I didn’t even know the homepage existed 🤦‍♀️.

Am I the only one who goes straight to Active?

What is or was on the homepage that I’m missing out on?

@NoCommentingFromNowOn I don't use Active because the font is massive and looks ugly, and there are a lot of topics/posts mixed in that I'm not interested it. It's more scrolling to find what I do want to read.

I really liked the list of 5 (later 6) more popular posts on the homepage. If the homepage was just a condensed 1 line list of 10-20 trending/popular posts, it'd make me very happy. The less scrolling and clicking, the better. I don't want MN to buy into enshittification. I know that MNHQ needs to make money, but at what cost to the user?

The font on my active convos page is smaller than on the new-to-me home page Confused

You could set your bookmark for MN to the trending threads section of active convos though, that looks like exactly what you say you want to see! Screenshot attached...

Aha, my favourite topic! You can delete whatever topics you want from your Active feed! Then you never see anything from that section unless you manually click on it from the ‘Talk’ then ‘All Talk Topics’.

I don’t want to boast, but I have 163 topics hidden 😆. Admittedly some of them are not posted on any more eg ‘random football event in 2022’ or similar.

It's still a much bigger font than the original home page! I'm too young for reading glasses, maybe MN is aimed at people older than me now 😅

Of course MN could add an access tool, and let us all choose the font size we're comfortable with...?

FightingInAVatOfJellyBabies · 13/10/2025 23:49

A few years ago you changed the front page and removed the box with the active threads in it - then you came back and said 'sorry didn't realise People used it's and put it back.

These last two updates have meant I've spent significantly less time on here.

Oh gosh! How tiny was the font on the old style home page then? It must have been really small to be smaller than the font on the active convos page.

Awful awful awful!

I've actually started coming on far less because of the awful layout. And now the giant adverts too.

If it stays as is then I guess my addiction is cured!

Yes, I am using the app because downloading the site from a browser on my phone proved unworkable, it crashed/froze/refused to upload a photo, whereas previously it had worked fine!
Are you suggesting I try to download the side from my search engine again? Why was the mobile search engine-derived website so impossibly glitchy over the weekend?
Thanks for getting back to me!
PS are there any puzzles on the app?

Edited

Hi @Pudmyboy - thanks for the additional info and feedback. Just to help clear up a few of the points you’ve raised:

  • The app does have slightly different functionality to the website. At the moment, you can only give ‘Thanks’ on posts - the other reaction options (like 'agree' or 'love') aren’t available in the app yet.
  • There are no pages for threads anymore. To help you keep your place in long threads, you can use the 'Bookmark' feature - this will return you to your previous spot the next time you open that particular thread.
  • Notifications currently appear as push notifications on your phone’s home screen (on the Mumsnet app icon) if you have them enabled, but there isn’t an in-app notifications area just yet.
  • There are no puzzles available on the app, but you can still access them via the website.
  • When using Mumsnet in your mobile browser, images have a 6MB file size limit, so if your image was larger than that, it might not have uploaded. Also, all images go through a short moderation delay before they appear on site, so you won't see you image attached to your reply immediately after posting. You should see the message “Your images are currently under review. Please check back later.”
  • If you’d like to try the website version of Mumsnet again, it’s worth clearing your cache, restarting your browser, or trying a different browser e.g. chrome instead of safari before logging in as that can sometimes fix freezing or crashing issues.

We’ll make sure all of your feedback is passed along to the team. Thanks, MNHQ.

Thank you for this, I have deleted the app and am using the website again, which worked fine for about 5 seconds.
I have done all the cache clearance, fully shutting down my mobile and restarting, haven't tried a different browser.
Also I don't think the glitches are just on my mobile: I have been having similar problems with Mumsnet on my laptop.
I know about the pictures being under review, it's not that, it just wouldn't upload at all, the little circle thing was going round as if it was thinking about loading but nothing happened, even if I went away and left it to it.
On threads I am following, I can read some then an ad fills the screen, but the ad is blank, and I can't scroll past it. It is very frustrating!
Edited to add,: example of huge blank ad given below:

Pudmyboy · 14/10/2025 21:50

So I am stuck, the easiest most familiar website keeps freezing/showing a huge blank ad which I can't get past, or I use the app which is much more basic and is frankly not fun.
Why does Mumsnet keep showing these massive blank ads?
I appreciate you getting back to me but it seems there is no real fix on offer, which is massively frustrating!

FightingInAVatOfJellyBabies · 15/10/2025 07:25

I love MN- pathetic probably, but I see something on the news and my first thought is to see what MN are saying about it.

But it is barely useable now, and when it does work the changes that have been made for the sake of change make it really awkward/uncomfortable to use.

I am sick of constantly clearing cache, affecting everything else and rarely improving MN.

I miss it, and I know that no one cares about individuals (and this is not an airport) but if someone like me who is so invested in MN, that regularly posts and chooses to a spend a lot of their free time on here is now avoiding coming on, this must be replicated in a wider audience.

There won't be 'unique clicks' if there is no content.

HebeMumsnet · 15/10/2025 11:43

Morning, everyone.

@Pudmyboy We're hopeful we may have solved the problem of the blank ads now. Are you still seeing them today? If so, could you try clearing your cache? If you're still seeing after that them please just let us know here.

And @FightingInAVatOfJellyBabies , we understand clearing cache is a bit of a pain but you can just do it for Mumsnet rather than all sites so it shouldn't interfere with passwords etc elsewhere. Hope that helps.

Pudmyboy · 16/10/2025 10:00

@HebeMumsnet thank you for your message, I thought the Big Blank Blocking adverts had finally vanished but this morning, this happened (NB I have already cleared caches):

Hi all,Thanks for the feedback - we do appreciate you taking time to share your thoughts. We've added the trending box to the homepage on mobile now. It sits underneath the two articles.
