Anyone know of a user friendly site similar to Mumsnet?

Finding Mumsnet hard work, too much like Facebook where it's more adverts than content.
Huge adverts covering the screen.
The migraine triggering moving ads at the top.
Changed the colours, too bright.
Some threads auto scrolling.
Going back to the top of the list.
Watch button removed from the top.
Ann Summer's arse has returned.
The only good change is moving the report button because I was constantly pressing it by mistake.

Agreed.
I’d go to Reddit but it’s a misogynistic mess. The only temptation is that it actually works!

I think it will take a mass walk out for MN to listen though.

GinandGingerBeer · 21/09/2025 10:44

Use the app. It has a nice interface and I don’t notice the ads so much.

Rainbow1901 · 21/09/2025 10:48

Have you tried changing your browser? On DuckDuckGo - some ads are still there but a lot less than on the others. It definitely does not feel so busy and is easier on the eyes.

ImFineItsAllFine · 21/09/2025 10:49

Firefox with an ad blocker works a treat.

Whenthetimeisright · 21/09/2025 14:33

I sometimes go on Reddit but I don't like it and find it quite complicated.

I did try Netmums but there seems hardly any traffic on the forums.

I don't know of any other alternatives.

So I'm sticking with MN atm butthese recent changes are realky disappointing. I fail to understand the rationale behind MN changing things that didn't need changing and making the site infinitely less user friendly

JudeyJudey · 21/09/2025 18:35

www.justthetalk.co.uk/ possibly?

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 21/09/2025 18:58

Happy to help you use Reddit, or suggest subs?

Any misogynistic ideas are very, very, very sub specific.

JudeyJudey · 21/09/2025 18:59

I’d be interested in female-friendly, lesbian-friendly (not “queer”!) subs.

Mrsmunchofmunchington · 21/09/2025 19:14

I had to subscribe to avoid the giant ads which were locking up my ipad even after I had left the site.
Now with the return to the top of the list thing and not showing OP posts or mine in a different colour it is hugely irritating again and now I am paying to be irritated.
Might as well cancel my sub.

CherryogDog · 22/09/2025 08:49

Thanks for replies everyone.
@Rainbow1901 I tried DuckDuckGo, it made the text gigantic and I couldn't find a way to reduce it, it might be OK on my laptop but I only mumsnet on my phone.
@ImFineItsAllFine I'm going to give Firefox a go, thanks.
@Whenthetimeisright I had a look at Netmums, it's like a ghost town!
@JudeyJudey I'll check that out later, thanks.
@Mrsmunchofmunchington how annoying!
My only experience in Reddit is if I google something it sometimes comes up in searches but I might have a look.
@GinandGingerBeer I tried the app before, I can't remember why I didn't like it, I'll give it another go.
I've just remembered another thing that's annoying me, when I try to @someone, the box with names in takes a while to scroll, and I end up scrolling the whole page.

Try the Mumsnet app again. There are a few adds but not loads. The colour changes don’t seem to have happened on it

CherryogDog · 22/09/2025 08:53

@Whenthetimeisright that's it, @mnhq not changing what's not broken, and not fixing what is.

Still interested in learning about some female-friendly subs if you have time!

I like the app but prefer pages for threads so rarely use it.

AutumnCosy2025 · 29/09/2025 00:49

A whole week & nothing changed.

They're obviously just hoping we're just going to either shut up about it or leave.

if I stay I won't just shut up about it, ggd changes are horrible.

just the talk looks promising.

i find reddit just as frustrating to use, but it does have some good things!

I’d love to know where Ann Summers’ arse is

My favorite site is Craigslist - not like MN at all, but, to me, very user-friendly. It's streamlined, with no ads, well laid-out, and it's so easy and so fast to post that it approximates real conversation.
HOWEVER, I have to add, its users are almost completely American, there is very little moderation, and it can be exceedingly rude, even vicious. And there are a few lunatics. However, it can also be a lot funnier than MN.
I'm still looking for other forums, myself. I finally took a look at Reddit, and I was appalled - sheer chaos.

JudeyJudey · 21/09/2025 18:35

Hm. Never heard of it. Odd site - they seem to tell you nothing about themselves. I see it says they're the "Guardian Talk community." Is that a reference to the news outlet?

Same! Never seen it and I’m here every night

IndigoBluey · 01/10/2025 01:28

Have you tried rollonfriday

gudetamathelazyegg · 01/10/2025 01:46

Honestly I do think more people would like Reddit if it was easier to find communities (subreddits) they felt comfortable in. It is a really different experience hanging out in r/AskUK, where I spend most of my time, compared to r/AskReddit which is a bit of a cesspool.

The main thing to get used to is that each subreddit has its own set of rules and different moderation teams, but I think it's much better to have actual moderation which doesn't exist here. On the other hand you may find your posts/comments deleted and you can be banned which could be frustrating but I would rather arseholes were actually banned and deleted rather than this 'challenge on the thread' and 'not in the spirit' grey area stuff MN does.

I also like r/CasualUK and r/popculturechat (the latter is way more women heavy than general UK subs - its more American but I think the moderation is good). Also lots of good subreddits for hobbies like r/CrossStitch.

You have to curate it yourself and unsub from the default US subreddits that you'll be automatically signed up for, but when you do I think it's a great place.

I’m sorry I completely missed this comment.

I’ll have a think and come back tomorrow.

Female friendly…..
What else? Hobbies, topics of interest…?

daisychain01 · 01/10/2025 03:57

It's pretty rude using the MN platform to discuss how to move to other forums.

MN isn't perfect but if you think their data privacy is checkered, be careful what you wish for on US hosted fora, they wouldn't give a shit if the site got hacked and everyone's data got stolen and sold on. It'd be meh, and?

ChangingWeight · 01/10/2025 04:11

Just download an Adblock. I’m surprised people use the internet without ads blocked tbh.
