New App message blocking screen!

I access mumsnet via the app. I've tried to go on today and there is a message about the new app that totally blocks the screen and I can't move it. I've deleted the app and reinstalled and the message is still completely covering the screen. I've now had to delete the app again and am accessing mumsnet via inputting the full website address on Google search. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hi @Queenanne20,

Sorry that you're having issues with the message in the app, this definitely shouldn't be happening and you should be able to dismiss it by selecting the 'Got it' button. I'm going to take a look into this with my team. I appreciate it's annoying but would there be any way you could share a screen recording of this happening with us?

Would you also be able to share with me if you're using an iOS or Android device?

Thanks for sharing @Queenanne20, the screenshot was really helpful! Am I right in thinking that both of you have your font size set larger than the default, @Queenanne20 and @sleepwouldbenice? We think this is happening because the message isn't working properly with a larger font size. Not accounting for that was an oversight on our part and we're very sorry!

There is a way around this that may work for you both if you're able to navigate on your device briefly with a smaller font size. I'll share instructions below:

  1. Open the Mumsnet app so the message is visible on your screen
  2. Navigate away from the app, but keep it open in the background as you'll need to come back to it shortly.
  3. Open 'Settings' on your device.
  4. Navigate to the part of your settings that controls the size of the font on your device.
  5. Reduce the size of the font on your device - this will just be temporary
  6. Open the Mumsnet app again with the smaller font size - the text in the message should shrink and you should be able to select the 'Got it' button at the bottom of the message.
  7. Once the alert is gone you won't see it again unless you delete the app and reinstall it again. So you can navigate back to your device settings and change the font size back to what it was previously.

Really sorry about this! It's a temporary issue that will be fixed when we launch our new app very soon.

We’re really sorry for the inconvenience this issue is causing. While we won’t be releasing a fix in the current version, we want to assure you that a new app is coming with our next release, which will resolve this.

That said, app releases do sometimes take several days to go through the review process in app stores, so unfortunately, we can’t push the fix immediately. In the meantime, we kindly ask that you use the workaround, and we truly appreciate your patience.

We test as much as possible across different settings, but unfortunately, this particular bug slipped through.
