I can only see lots of posts with an option to load more.
On safari, iPhone 6, customised settings are set to 25 per page.
BeckyAMumsnet · 05/03/2025 11:42
Hello @EarsUpTailUp thanks for posting - you're seeing this because we are currently testing a new way of scrolling through threads, and would appreciate any feedback you may have. Thanks.
SueMumsnet · 06/03/2025 11:06
Brefugee · 05/03/2025 12:14
thanks for the heads up. Honestly is it so difficult to have said this in advance? it is bloody infuriating. but since you asked: I want pages back, as specified in my settings
and i really would love to be able to go back to my last post in a thread (probably you want me to pay for that?)
Hi @Brefugee thanks for the feedback, it's really useful. Just wanted to check something - in terms of being able to go back to the last post in a thread - do you use bookmarking? It will allows you to mark your place in a thread. And definitely no charge for it 😁
SueMumsnet · 06/03/2025 11:10
Togglebullets · 06/03/2025 07:37
Really annoying is my feedback - on a thread with lots of posts I like to skip to the last post to see what's the latest on it. I now can't do that easily. It's definitely going to lead to even more people posting irrelevant crap without checking for updates or seeing if the thread has moved on. It's honestly beginning to feel like Mumsnet is actively trying to get rid of us. Which is odd seeing as we make the content.
Hi @Togglebullets thanks. Makes total sense. There is a button which allows you to skip to the bottom of the thread but it's pretty hidden. If this was easier, would that solve your issue here?
One of the ideas behind it is that it'll lead to fewer people posting irrelevant crap as it makes it easier to read the entire thread...but the feedback is really helpful...

EarsUpTailUp · 06/03/2025 11:10
I was just coming on to say that I use bookmarking, but that it’s not working as it still brings the page up to a previous “load more posts” point, not at the post I bookmarked.
Please please can it go back to normal!
Hey @EarsUpTailUp we've been testing it like crazy to make sure this doesn't happen and it isn't happening in any of our tests. Is there any chance you'd be prepared to jump on a very quick call with someone from our team here to show us what's happening? We'd be very grateful.
SueMumsnet · 06/03/2025 11:27
Teencentral · 06/03/2025 07:06
Got to agree, it's rubbish and makes threads difficult to read.
hi @Teencentral is there any chance you could explain more why it makes threads difficult to read? It's genuinely intended to make them easier to read so very interested in your feedback...
SueMumsnet · 06/03/2025 12:59
Brefugee · 06/03/2025 12:33
It is going g to lead to WAY more "cancel the cheque" followed by EVEN MORE "RTFT"
Utterly pointless. So what is your thought process here? Did you consult users? An answer if "we'd prefer everyone pays so are making it diffucult" would also be ok
It's intended to make it easier for people to read the whole thread. Rather than having to click buttons to scroll through multiple pages, you just keep scrolling down the page. It's pretty common across the internet. Many many users have told us they like all posts to be on one page without having to scroll through pages. And yes, we've done lots of testing with lots of users.

The main reason I have used 50 posts per page for years was that I read MN using data instead of wifi a lot and full threads were too slow to load but it was very frustrating once we could no longer toggle to show all posts in order to use the browser search in a thread. The new thing hasn't kicked in for me yet but should that work better from the loading point of view?
Yep that's the idea.

Iwishiwasapolarbear · 06/03/2025 13:58
It’s awful. If it’s a thread with hundreds of replies I don’t want to scroll through them all each time I go on that thread. For example the tv threads which follow along. It’s massively unusable. My phone also refreshes after a while (possibly my phones issue) and it takes me right back to the first post. Which after spending a good few minutes scrolling and scrolling to get to where I need to be is really frustrating. It’s genuinely unusable at the moment unless it’s a thread without many posts. Please change it back. Or just have both options so everyone’s happy?
Hi @Iwishiwasapolarbear so on every post there are 3 dots in the right hand corner. One of the options underneath this is an arrow which says "bottom" - this takes you to the bottom of the thread. Does that make it easier to do what you need to do? (I'm not saying this is the solution btw - the feedback is really useful)

AdmittowearingCrocs · 06/03/2025 14:05
I really dislike not having pages as I like to see how many posts there are before deciding to read the whole thread or just the OP’s posts. If there are lots of posts and I am short of time or patience I can just read the OP’ posts with replies. In my settings recently I tried it without pages and very quickly changed it back again. Please bring the pages back.
hi - this is good to know - so you can see the number of posts on a thread at the top of the page next to the thread title - does this not achieve what you're looking for?
SueMumsnet · 06/03/2025 14:19
Iwishiwasapolarbear · 06/03/2025 14:14
Thanks that is helpful. I do still prefer the pages option though. I want to get to the middle of a thread with hundreds of posts so either way it’s a lot of scrolling
that's interesting - do you mind me asking when you'd want to go the middle of a thread? And is it circumstances in which bookmark or save post wouldn't suffice? It's really helpful to understand this as we try and balance all the different needs...

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 06/03/2025 14:13
I quite like seeing if a thread is long or not before jumping in. I don't want to start a 9page one if I only have a few minutes.
I also run a thread - how will I know when I need to start another one as I won't see that were on the final page.
Totally understand. And does the number of replies that's next to the thread title not do this?
SueMumsnet · 06/03/2025 14:33
Iwishiwasapolarbear · 06/03/2025 14:29
I haven’t ever bookmarked before because never needed to but I could try it. For example I’m reading a thread on the tv board where people comment as they watch but I’m behind so I don’t want to see the end posts and see spoilers, I want to get to the middle. I would usually remember which page number I was on and easily get back to it
that's a really useful insight thank you - if you wouldn't mind trying bookmarking a thread you're following like this and let me know if it does or doesn't do what you need that would be v helpful
SueMumsnet · 06/03/2025 14:37
AlexandrinaH · 06/03/2025 14:32
It really doesn’t make it easier to read the whole thread.
This is the reason I don’t use the app.
Incidentally, mine are still showing in 25 post pages. Is this just a trial for a few users?
yes it's a trial for a small number of users - as we try to work out what does and doesn't work. Many do find that it does make it easier to read the whole thread - do you mind me asking why you don't find it easier?
SueMumsnet · 06/03/2025 15:37
EarsUpTailUp · 06/03/2025 14:44
I know you didn’t ask me, but I’d like to explain what I usually do when I’m reading certain threads, as it’s impossible with this all posts all at once thing.
I tend to post on threads that I’m really interested in, and very often a poster will write something so eloquently and in a way that makes me think (sometimes it’s my own post that I feel proud of writing 😂), and I like to go back to reread and process it (I’m autistic, it can take a while to thoroughly process something), so for example I’m currently on a schools thread that’s very close to home (in a mental sense, not geographical!), and I find reading some different opinions several times, and in relation to replies (good or bad) and how the conversation goes, it helps me to develop a better understanding of the subject, of where other posters are coming from, and points me in certain directions to learn more about it.
I do this by knowing where certain posts are and going to the page number to find them again, as often as I need/want to.
I can’t do this now, and it’s frustrating, and it means my MN experience is now lacking. Not wanting to sound manipulative at all, but the change is really difficult to deal with, and not being able to go back to specific pages is really stressing me out!
this is super useful to know - thank you
I hear you on the stressful - I'm going to look at whether/how we can remove people from the test group. It's also definitely an option that if this does get rolled out further that we can have a setting where you don't have it.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 06/03/2025 14:56
No.
Here is the screen shot of what I see. I navigate to my pages through "threads I'm on"
One screenshot shows all my threads - and the one I'm running. No clue as to total just how many new posts.
Second thread shows where it goes when I click (to my point in the thread presumably) again no idea of how many posts.
Where do I see how many pits there are and when do I need to start a new thread (I used to post a new thread when it got to the last page!)
that's really helpful thank you - I understand - you don't see the number of replies at the top because you're coming in half way down the thread....but you always saw the number of pages...

What a lovely way to speak about your users, without whom there would be no MN.
Hey - if you read the post of mine you've quoted here you'll see that I was using the language of the person I was quoting. Thanks.

This endless pageless scrolling is actual madness. I thought it was a glitch, not an actual feature.
Far too much scrolling to get to the reply box.
No actual way to know where you are in a thread or ability to get back to a post you might want to quote. Just endless scrolling.
Very disorientating.
You might want to read up on why Amazon added location, page numbers and timer to end of chapter/book.
Hi @Onlycoffee - thanks for feedback - really useful. Just to say, you don't need to keep scrolling to get to the reply box - if you hit "add post" on any post, it'll take you straight to the reply box. Taking into account all your other feedback as well though, thanks for posting.

@BeckyAMumsnet @SueMumsnet I am also having the issue with the thread taking me to the first post even though I've bookmarked the latest post on a long thread.
Hi - that's helpful to know thanks. Yes will get you removed from the test group asap. Thanks for feedback.
SueMumsnet · 07/03/2025 14:52
NebulousDogWhistleIsReality · 07/03/2025 12:30
With regards to the bookmarks option, other forums have a bookmark option that allows you to save all bookmarked posts. Here you can only bookmark one post at a time. Bookmark a newer post and it removes the original bookmark.
@SueMumsnet & @BeckyAMumsnet can I please have my pages back now, this new way is very irritating!
Also @NebulousDogWhistleIsReality can I just ask you something? Have you ever used the "save post" feature on Mumsnet? It's in the 3 dots on every post. Does that do what you say can be done on other forums? Or are you talking about something different? Would be really helpful to know...

LuckyLerwick · 07/03/2025 18:14
@SueMumsnet please can you remove me from the test group too?
Just out of curiosity, how have you selected the people in the test group? Just a random selection or any common denominators? For example, I subscribed to Premium at the old higher price when COVID broke out for a few years, I no longer subscribe though- completely cynically, I can't help but wonder if Mumsnet are wondering if a 'carrot' of being able to choose pages Vs endless scroll as a Premium option may tempt back previous subscribers?
I know it is horribly cynical, but you are a business 🤷♀️
Hi @LuckyLerwick it’s done on a random basis. It has nothing to do with your Premium status.
SueMumsnet · 08/03/2025 14:09
We will get anyone who’s asked to be removed taken out of the test group as soon as we can. Thanks for feedback and sorry for annoyance. Lots of people find it an easier way to read threads but I understand it’s not for everyone and so, as I’ve said above, if we do roll it out, we’ll have a way for you to switch it off in settings.
SueMumsnet · 08/03/2025 14:12
TheSuperbOwl · 08/03/2025 08:26
I'm obviously in this test group too, so remove me. And I had to scroll down for ages before I got to the message box.
This reminds of the shit managers pull at work regarding new ways or systems put in place to improve how we work. It doesn't improve how we work, we're working our arses off just fine thanks if you would only leave us alone. It's just more stressful shit we have to learn and put up with, and it's sprung on us without any heads up. Note that the managers introducing these procedures don't actually have any need to use them themselves.
This type of stuff is often done by people who haven't got enough to do and are trying to justify their salaries mixed up with a bit of "hmmmm how can we really piss off people this month".
It's utterly arrogant and selfish. Put it back to how it was immediately.
Hey @TheSuperbOwl I understand it’s annoying for you but I can 100% assure you there’s no one at MNHQ who hasn’t got enough to do or is trying to justify their salary by pissing people off. As I’ve said, there are many good reasons why we’re testing this out, but I get that it’s not for everyone and so we will have an option to turn it off if we do roll it out.
btw you can jump to the reply box at any time by hitting the “add post” button that appears on every post.
SueMumsnet · 09/03/2025 15:11
Wallywobbles · 09/03/2025 10:11
Would it be possible to be able to bookmark more than one post? So you can flag all the posts that interest you? And then have a "this is where I got to" type bookmark.
hi @Wallywobbles there's a "save" button in the 3 dots menu on the top right hand corner of each post - does this do what you'd like it to do? It allows you to save posts in a list - and then bookmark just marks where you're upto on a thread. All a bit hidden and we can look at that - but just wondering if it does what you'd like it to do or not quite?
BeckyAMumsnet · 11/03/2025 14:23
Hi all - thanks for posting. We'll remove you from the test group ASAP.
KellyMumsnet · 12/03/2025 09:30
@Doveytail @Screamingabdabz and @Waystation - we'll get you removed from the test group, too.
