Qatar ad

The Qatar ad is egregious. It covers your entire screen, you can’t scroll up or down, and there’s no way out but to go back or close the browser tab. Please can you get rid of this one?

Running Chrome on iOS on an iPhone.

The last twice I’ve come into this post I’ve been faced with the Qatar ad!

GinghamCheck · 29/12/2024 19:46

The ads are making the site unusable. You cannot read the thread as they take over the whole page and you cannot close or scroll past the ads. I don’t mind ads ordinarily but these ones are ridiculous.

SB0 · 29/12/2024 20:54

Agreed! It’s a nightmare! It has popped up for me on almost every single thread and has meant I have barely used Mumsnet since Christmas. Once it pops up, I have no choice but to close the browser on my phone as you can’t scroll or move… nightmare!

It's making this site unusable. Giving up now.

Is anything going to be done about these ads? Quite upsetting that I can’t read or comment on the cancer recovery group thread due to the Qatar ad popping up every single time.

Could it be something to do with the airline and Apple? Like when U2 forced their album on all iPod users?

I'm not techy at all (as you have gathered) but I have a Google phone and not getting this problem at all. I'm just wondering if it's an issue with Apple/Qatar rather than Mumsnet.

I started another thread about the Qatar ad as I couldn’t get back on to this thread (because of the Qatar ad). On my thread someone posted they have an android phone and they are having the same problem with this ad.

It does seem to be mostly people with iPhones who are reporting this problem. I am using an iPhone.

It would be helpful to know if there are others on android who have this problem too and are there others on iPhone who are not experiencing this problem.

Another Qatar ad complaint | Mumsnet

Hi Mumsnet I posted on the other thread but cannot post on it again because the Qatar ad immediately pops up and I can’t scroll past it, it won’t go a...

Also, if it was an issue with Apple and Qatar ad rather than the Mumsnet site then as an IPhone user I would be having this issue on other sites across the internet too. But it is only happening on Mumsnet. Various sites get paid to host ads and I’m sure Mumsnet doesn’t want to lose revenue. But I wonder how many people are actually being affected by this ad.

Remaker · 30/12/2024 01:25

Gave up on getting any assistance so I’ve done some experimenting myself. When the ad pops up if you click in the far left of the toolbar and select ‘hide distracting items’ then click on the ad it disappears and you can carry on reading and posting. It doesn’t last forever but it has definitely helped!

blownawaybyit · 30/12/2024 03:47

It astounds me that a company as well-heeled as MN can't hire someone to fix this mess.

I work directly in software and can tell that it's actually a management decision to dedicate so few resources to the user experience. They just don't care 'cause there's always more views and clicks coming in from the Daily Fail.

blownawaybyit · 30/12/2024 03:48

Chrome on Android here too, so it's not just IOS.

PivotPivotmakingmargaritas · 30/12/2024 04:00

Reading this thread the ad has popped up and blocked me three times!!!

You really are going to see people on mumsnet less if it’s not fixed asap as it is ridiculous

MissTrip82 · 30/12/2024 06:41

Same here. Constant. Across all areas. Prevents scrolling on the phone.

If the intention is to make us even
less likely to visit Qatar, it’s working,

VivaDixie · 30/12/2024 08:55

@ImustLearn2Cook fair enough 👍

HebeMumsnet · 30/12/2024 10:28

Thanks, everyone. We think we have managed to block most of these now. Could you try clearing your cookies now? That should sort it but if anyone is still seeing these ads after clearing cookies please let us know. Thank you.
