Google chrome keeps freezing - only on MN?

TigerRag · 11/12/2024 16:30

When I use MN on my Sony Xperia 10 VI 5g using Google Chrome it keeps freezing. If I use any other websites on my phone or browse MN on Google Chrome on my Chromebook, it doesn't freeze, ever.

Everything's up to date and my phone is new

Any ideas please?

Yes it’s been near impossible to use MN’s website for about a month I’d say (on iPhone/Safari). It’s definitely the ads that cause freezes, jumping about, reloading of pages etc.
It got so bad that I ended up downloading the DuckDuckGo browser. It filters out all tracking and ends up loading MN pages without ads.
It’s not an ad blocker per se, I do see ads on other websites and in principle I think it’s only fair to see some ads in return for being able to use a website for free. However MN’s advertising implementation is so buggy it makes the site unusable!

Ohh this has been happening to me too. Been telling DH how crap my phone is recently! I've switched to the app but really don't like the layout or notifications so may try another browser.

Actually it’s safari it’s happening on for me.

This happens to me on the app

Thats really helpful thankyou.

It does seem to me (non techy person) to be the demand of all the multiple flashing ads thats the issue. My phone isnt even a really basic phone - its a decent samsung too.

Its becoming unusable if they dont sort it so having a work around would be helpful.

Hi @TigerRag and everyone else.

We're really sorry that this issue is affecting many of you. We’re currently investigating this and running a survey, which several of you have already filled in. Here's a link to the thread - Threads crashing and freezing - fill in our survey

We’re gathering all the data back from this survey and working to find a solution, so the more responses we have, the better.

In the meantime, sorry for all the frustration this is causing (and thanks for bearing with us).

It's really driving me mad now. I'm using the site less which I guess it healthier!

Onlyvisiting · 04/01/2025 13:05

Same, mumsnet frequently crashes my phone, I swear it drains the battery far faster than it should too.

Pleasealexa · 04/01/2025 13:07

So many people experiencing the same issue the tech team must be able to recreate it.

Murica · 04/01/2025 13:12

I switched from Chrome to Duck Duck Go too and haven't had any problems since. I still see ads but not the ones that cover the whole page. I have a Samsung Galaxy.

LetThereBeLove · 04/01/2025 13:18

Have filled in the survey.

Dueanamechange2025 · 04/01/2025 18:47

Duck Duck Go has fixed the issue for me as well. So glad as I thought it was my phone.

TheChippendenSpook · 05/01/2025 09:27

It's becoming more like advertisementNet than Mumsnet.
