We need a safe space to talk about estate management and issues like current hedge-shape trends and navigating planning permission for a new wing when English Heritage are interfering. The lower classes just don't understand and can make very hurtful comments.

Only 100 acres?

MagentaRavioli · 08/10/2024 20:53

Could we have a safe space for people who have more than 17 captive walruses as part of their business or family home? I am struggling to connect to people who understand the challenges relating to tusk care and walrus hygiene at this scale. People who have a single pet walrus can sometimes hijack the threads without the level of empathy I’d hope for.

kittensinthekitchen · 08/10/2024 20:53

And where does a pauper like me find advice on hedge shapes for my council hedge?

I don't know but the C word will not be allowed on my board.

@MagentaRavioli Having to reinforce the floors upstairs can be a nightmare. And Stanna Stair lifts can't cope with their weight when they get elderly.

Edited

Some of my walruses struggle with stair lifts. This is the sort of thoughtless posting I’m talking about.

Surely you’ll have to sneer at commoners occasionally? Or patronise the local curate? Or call in the county coroner when someone’s found murdered in the ancestral library?

Bobbybobbins · 08/10/2024 20:58

😆😆😆

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/10/2024 20:59

Does it have a jacuzzi, a Mercedes and room for a pony?

Darling, jacuzzis are so non-U.

I would like a board for those who don't use mumsnet, and never will because it's full of cliques and nastiness! 😭 it's so distressing when you don't get constant adulation and acquiescence.

MagentaRavioli · 08/10/2024 21:05

@DoreenonTill8 will no one think of the walruses

I have to say it is remarkably insensitive of you to keep talking about your walruses when I'm facing real struggles, like finding a contractor who can sensitively restore the marble statue of great-great-great-grandpapa in the centre of the hedge maze.

DoreenonTill8 · 08/10/2024 21:13

'The' hedge maze @MeowCatPleaseMeowBack ?
So you only have one?...
How quaint...

MagentaRavioli · 08/10/2024 21:17

Some of us had to diversify into weddings, shooting weekends and walrus safaris to fund our stonework projects on the East Wing. So you have no idea how irksome the contractor issues are until your cleaner decides to be picky about the tasks they do.

Only 100 acres?

That's what I thought. 2500+ more like it. But then I realised it's not what I had hoped.

Uricon2 · 08/10/2024 21:26

I know someone whose family, a good few centuries back, owned the Ukraine. And Siberia.

C'mon, surely the reflected glory is an in Grin

MrsFrumble · 08/10/2024 21:27

Surely someone who really owned 17+ walruses would know that the collective noun is a pod or a huddle, so I call troll.

Love the ASBO hedge BTW.

toomuchcardboard · 08/10/2024 21:32

Those of us with walruses appreciate that having the acreage and staff to support a system of lakes and associated water management systems to provide the necessary salinity is beyond the newer enobled, but please consider smaller pinnipeds before purchasing your first walrus. Your lake, whether or not designed by Capability Brown, may not meet the exacting needs of even a single walrus.
Nb. The collective noun for pedigree walruses is a soirée.

In all seriousness, 100 acres would give you an income below minimum wage unless that land was in a famous wine producing region. You need thousands of acres in the right parts of the country to be rich.

I know Jacuzzi and Mercedes, don't think I've met Roomforapony though. Are they Welsh?
