Muting a poster

Is it possible to mute or block a poster?

I’m sick of seeing his/her posts.

It is ridiculous. Every other forum I've been on will let you block other users. It would save a hell of a lot of admin/mod time, too.

Well ! Wasn't that a coincidence- as soon as I wrote that upthread I got banned ! They said it was over a misunderstanding on another post. All resolved now. I was pretty upset though. For all it's bristles I love this forum. Come on girls, fess up ! Which one of you was it ?! (Only half- joking here)

'What a stupid comment' is not abusive but certainly rude.
'Only a brainless twat would say that' is abusive.
'Have you looked at the T&Cs for your contract, because they probably say...' or
'I did something similar last year and the result was...' or
'I am a MIL and felt hurt when I was told...'

are OK and may even be helpful.

There are a lot of posters on here who I see their username and know I'm not going to agree with them, but I'm fine just scrolling by.

However there is one male poster who makes me very angry that I wish I could just mute. I doubt it would hamper the conversation any because he never has anything of value to add except misogyny, telling women how they actually do owe their husbands sex, explaining in great detail how sex is a need and a right, and bragging about how flattering it was to be propositioned by underage Thai prostitutes. I just get the rage every time I see his username because I have no idea why someone who hates women so much spends so much time bloviating on a primarily women's forum.

You’re assuming that you know which poster I’m talking about. I haven’t named them. I’m not going to.

If you read my posts, easy by pressing “See all”, you’ll see that I’ve already acknowledged that they have a different opinion to me, and isn’t breaking any rules. I’m not sure why you decided to point things out to me that I’ve already said.

So are you suggesting simply blocking the posts posted by a particular username - which could then change, repeatedly, and no longer be blocked - or are you suggesting blocking all posts by an individual account, regardless of username, so the name-change function no longer works?

Regardless of that, we already get tons of posters contributing totally useless posts because they haven't bothered reading the thread or the OP's posts. Making it so no-one knows what posts are viewable by which posters - so, accepting that posters won't be reading the full thread because they might have key posters blocked - would make this 1000 times worse.

It's a discussion forum - it's supposed to work by people engaging in the discussion and contributing. The only way that can work with infuriating posters is to learn how to deal with them. It's simple, but also difficult - ignore them so they can't derail! (And report them if they are repeatedly goading).

I don't know who we're talking about, but I agree with a point or two about what you've said; I think what you've said seems insightful, intelligent, and I'm inclined to believe you.

I think what you said is the reason, though, that he hates women. So he must thoroughly enjoy winding women up. Ugh. That's an absolute prime example of a poster you should be able to mute.

I like reading different opinions/perspectives. It’s made me think, over the years, about mine.
