I used to be in a forum that allowed a mute/block feature. It didn’t interfere as I would see that a blocked person had posted and could choose to see their post in the context of that conversation or scroll by the little grey line. Much better than catching an eyeful of the tripe some posters used to put in the conversation.

Not having this as a feature is a downside of MN as I can’t avoid people like I can IRL.

The problem of name changes crops up quite a lot on threads about muting/blocking and the proposed solution is to only mute or block the specific username. If the user name changes, the posts under the second username are not muted/blocked - unless you mute/block the second username too. It would reduce, but not remove, the irritation - and would protect users who namechange for valid reasons.

I think the namechange feature of MN is an incredible USP so it sort of makes up for not being able to mute/block, etc. I think mnhq would prefer the robust arguments posters have within T& C, having left the ability to namechange and start over. With blocking, there will be less traffic and drama = less money.

Those who have the mute/block feature only have the one username per account feature as well.

I want a mute button in real life.

Yes, absolutely but I can imagine it's technically more difficult.

You are all so observant, I don't even look at the names. I feel like I'll notice them more now after reading this post 😀

If we could I think I'd be here on my own with the amount I'd have blocked.

I do like the ability to name change and not be tracked between names. Very handy for when someone works out who you are.

feral I think several of us know exactly who you mean. I've got to the stage where I'm scanning that thread to look for your name. I have no idea why so many people are engaging with them. It feels like its a derail on there - to talk about the topic of the thread. Feral your posts have been very informative thank you
