If i click a link, my mumsnet page changes to a content ad so i can’t go back

Sorry if this is clumsily phrased.

if i click a link in a thread and it opens in a new tab on my phone, when i try to click “back” to the thread it has disappeared and now just shows a content ad.

if i so this really quickly, it is possible to press “back” arrow twice more and get back to the thread i started in, but if i take more than a couple of minutes on the linked page there is no backwards arrow on the mumsnet page and i have to faff around trying to find the thread again.

this has been going on for weeks and i assumed someone would be working on it but nothing seems to be changing so i’m raising it here. I’m using Safari on an iphone 13 mini. The screenshot of the current page i get instead of the thread i was reading is attached. Is this just me?

Hi there @RubaiyatOfAnyone. Thanks for letting us know about this. We'll look into it now but just a few questions in the meantime:

  1. Is it always this page from the screenshot that you get taken to at the moment?
  2. Which thread were you on when you hit 'back' and got taken to that page?
  3. If you're able to get a screen recording of this happening that would be amazing, then we can see exactly what's happening.

@HebeMumsnet I have a screen recording, how do I send it?

That would be great. Please could you email it over to [email protected] and include a link to this thread?

Hi OP

We've got the screen recording - thanks so much. We'll be back with an update as soon as we have one.

Hi all

Please can you confirm your devices and browsers if you haven't done so already?

Hi again everyone,

We've been looking into this and it actually looks like a problem with ram on IOS.

It's worth clearing your cache regularly, but also worth typing your post (particularly a longer one), into a note app before you post it on Mumsnet.

We appreciate that this isn't ideal and we'll continue looking into it, but that does appear to be the workaround for now.
