Has anyone noticed how bitter people are here lol

You ask a simple question and you get really weird responses, but I suppose that’s just the internet in general. I wonder if other people have noticed it. Also most things here involve people getting cheated on which I personally don’t like to read about (I know nobody asked lol)
bonus points if you call me a snowflake 😉 I wish we had better camaraderie between women but I’m so disappointed by answers I’ve been getting. Irrelevant stuff just to be bitchy (feels like)

You're not wrong OP. There are some very bitter people on MN and they can't seem to stop themselves from posting on threads and unleashing their bile on others.

HiveSentinelApis · 23/02/2024 22:29

dont mention AI programs, seems odd that people can use there human mind, or link to other websites, or copy and retype information but when anyone uses Ai to help improve their responses or to add more context to their posts its omg.

yes i understand if its a direct copy and paste without reading it.

Pixiesgirl · 23/02/2024 22:37

It was always argumentative here tbh, if your "face" didn't fit you would always invite a pile on. Tbf there used to be a lot more humour and generosity of spirit, but that was in the before times, before social media was entrenched. Once everyone had access via mobiles the Internet changed. It is what it is.

Pacifybull · 23/02/2024 22:42

It will go down better if you don’t write “lol” in any posts. It makes someone look a bit silly.

True and very interesting because the only reason I write silly nonsense like that is to come across as harmless. If I wrote things bluntly with no emojis and peppered lols, I’d feel rude. It’s so bad isn’t it. People pleasing. I think it lightens the tone. I know I’m not the only one. I need to grow out of it, especially if others are noticing.

Jealousy is the main think I notice.

I agree.

ichundich · 23/02/2024 22:55

I agree OP. In particular a lot of people are bitter about: kids in pubs, the middle class, private schools, men.

Yeah men bless them can’t live with them can’t live without them. Cost of living and all that, the rent is too damn high! Everything so expensive it really gets to me honestly. Not to mention the depression (urge to say lol rising)

overgrowngrass · 23/02/2024 23:01

It’s got worse in recent years. I very rarely post anymore tbh as it sometimes feels mean just for the sake of it. For me it used to be a supportive place, now I wouldn’t post on a day I wasn’t feeling emotionally robust!

overgrowngrass · 23/02/2024 23:03

I posted earlier today about cutting costs from my wedding and had a number of replies insinuating I was some kind of instagram wannabe airhead living beyond my means who should elope or have her wedding in a town hall 😂

Spectre8 · 23/02/2024 23:06

I think alot of people are deeply unhappy with their own lives and by dragging others down it makes them feel better.

And god forbid if you have more money, assets and so on. According to many bitter comments we should all be living in poverty ...race to the bottom bs.

PoliteTurtle · 23/02/2024 23:07

I self promoted some art on here (naughty me going against guidelines… I have since had it removed) and got unsolicited critique and for some reason business advice from it…. But I’ve learnt that’s what you open yourself up to on here… a lot of criticism

the only issue was the op used to get easily distracted especially when discussing them

AskingQuestionsAgain · 24/02/2024 00:00

Mn has changed a lot over the years, when I first used it ages ago when my kids were small (eldest is 21) it was so much more supportive.

I can't remember how old my kids were when I first used the site.

Honestly if we were guaranteed a boy we’d probably still do it. I feel like everyone on that post blew it out of proportion and I’m some weird eugenics person. I just didn’t expect so much backlash on one of my first posts. Harsh welcome lol I’m getting used to it. That’s the real world and @ReadingLight is so right

Sometimes the whole tone of a thread can be thrown if the first few responses are shitty. I've seen some really innocuous threads turn absolutely twilight zone, I think if you've been here a while you can see that happening and just abandon ship 😂

Annymania · 24/02/2024 00:05

I've noticed that people will often deliberately point out the worst in others on MN. So if someone is relaying something in a post, and there is one small aspect of the story in which they were in the wrong, people will pounce on that and tear them to pieces.
Another thing I've noticed is that people tend to copy the opinions of the first few commenters. In real life, people have a very wide range of views. On MN, people read the first few comments and almost copy and paste them, so it ends up with like 300 comments, 85% of which are saying the same thing.
Personally I think they need to make is impossible to change your vote on AIBU. Once you've clicked, you shouldn't be allowed to change your vote just because you've been influenced by the majority.

Indeed and if you haven't had time to read the comments but want to reply you get pounced on for stating the obvious because it's been mentioned! Some people have too much time on their hands and/or are obsessed with it and read everything rather than just having a scroll while having a bit of free time to get away from reality. X
