Like this...

Never seen these before but this evening they're popping up on lots of threads?

Hi OP

So sorry about that - firstly, can we ask you to sign out and back in again? This often does fix stray ads appearing. Flowers

Hello @HauntedGusset thanks for posting. You're seeing links to related Mumsnet content pages rather than external ads. We're testing this at the moment on a small area of the site and hope MNers find it useful - do let us know if you have any feedback.

Ok thanks for the clarification.

You asked for feedback so....

I do not find it useful. I pay for MN Premium because I don't want ads of any kind cluttering up my page.

If I wanted a dehumidifier I'd look for one, I won't be tempted to rush out and buy one because an ad (and it is an ad, even if you'd rather call it "related MN content") for them was plonked into the middle of a thread about how to split the cost of a gift for an elderly parent Hmm It's not even remotely related to the thread topic!

I was just about to start a thread on this.
I don’t pay for premium. But I was going to ask what on earth these annoying things are, slap bang in the middle of threads.
@BeckyAMumsnet as @HauntedGusset says, it’s really annoying placement, they’re not helpful and I just find them extremely irritating.
It’s a no from me.

DragonFly98 · 09/11/2023 00:10

Yes really irritating and not at all useful.

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 09/11/2023 01:20

Why on earth would you think them useful MNHQ?
They’re highly irritating 😡

Lochroy · 09/11/2023 01:36

Wowsers. How to piss off all of the people who actually contribute financially in one fell swoop.

Who on earth genuinely thought that would be a good idea...hmm...I've got an idea... when is an advert not an advert...when Amazon have paid us to market their stuff under our name...

It comes to mind, the bbc no adverts however they still use there own ads for different bbc shows.

Ladyj84 · 09/11/2023 02:00

Huh itv premium yet still have to watch ads BBC but still some ads hate it when they say we pay for Jo ads that's what it should mean not tiny tiny writing saying you may see some ads after we've paid for a subscription

Lochroy · 09/11/2023 07:49

@KitchenGard I know what you mean, because it's billed as mn guides, but that's blatantly a stretch. I'm not going to clock, but I bet if I did, it would also say it's sponsored content. Mn will have been fed this.

You can all the whatever you like, they're still ads and those who pay for Premium shouldn't be seeing them.

LilyMumsnet · 09/11/2023 11:06

Thanks for all of the feedback. We do appreciate it and will be discussing it in the office.

Chattybot · 09/11/2023 11:26

This is why I don't choose to get Mumsnet Premium. Who wants to pay and still get ads?

McLarenette · 09/11/2023 15:58

I’ll stop paying for premium if this new policy stays, fwiw. I pay for premium mostly not to see ads.

MMAMPWGHAP · 09/11/2023 21:51

Could be worse. You could have got this one

Ads showing in the middle of threads AGAIN even though I'm on MN Premium!
hexsnidgett · 09/11/2023 21:52

I agree, there's not much point paying for premium. An ad blocker could do it for free, but I have chosen to pay for premium because I value mumsnet.
If ads are going to pop up more and more, I will have to reconsider.

tedgran · 09/11/2023 21:53

I read Mumsnet on my phone, no ads as I have them blocked.

I'm getting that. Really don't want to see this halfway down a thread!

I have an ad blocker and these still come up.
I think they’re only appearing on certain topics (currently).

what Was the outcome of the discussion?

Warmworm · 18/11/2023 09:37

This could make me cancel my premium membership if it’s not sorted. They are adverts. Mine was for sex toys ffs.

IGotItFromAgnes · 18/11/2023 20:01

Is there any way we can opt out of at least the sex toy adverts? I really don’t want to see them as I’m scrolling down the page. I’m only on MN to read about parking and unreasonable people, I don’t need to see this while I’m having a read of threads with a nice cup of tea

I agree.

BoreOfWhabylon · 19/11/2023 00:28

I also find these intensely annoying.
