Disinformation campaign

These boards are being flooded with persistent disinformation regarding the Gaza situation.

https://www.politico.eu/article/israel-social-media-opinion-hamas-war/

Those of us who wish to engage in humane discourse regarding the plight of Gazans are being constantly shouted down by probably paid operatives who seek to dismiss, deflect and downplay the human rights disaster that is unfolding in Gaza and the West Bank. Constant accusations of being Hamas supporters and callous disregard for the feelings that people are experiencing when being confronted with distressing information. Much of it could be deemed islamophobic. There is no room for nuanced thinking coming from these posts, just the all or nothing narrative which is practically shoved down our throats with patronising responses.

I have posted the above link in order to prove that these activities are taking place in a coordinated and determined manner before anyone accuses me of the unmentionable.

Constant flooding of the boards with support for a far right, human rights abusing government would not be tolerated under usual circumstances.

There are probably people here who have friends, relatives, loved ones trapped in Gaza or struggling to live in the West Bank. How are they supposed to feel or respond? Is it healthy to assist in the portrayal of the UK as an islamophobic, hate filled country who are happy to stand by and watch Gazans being obliterated? The govt and opposition are already doing a good enough job.

As for the propaganda. People here aren't stupid or callous enough to fall for it. It's not 1989 and people no longer only read one source of news from a dog eared newspaper laying on a pine coffee table.

Israel floods social media to shape opinion around the war

Since Hamas’ attack, Israel has pushed dozens of online ads, including graphic videos, to millions of people to drum up support for its actions.

Hey @flufferknutter thanks for posting. We can't speak for what's been happening on other forums/social media - but we're not seeing this on Mumsnet right now. Justine's post here gives further information about our moderation approach. Even though we're unable to verify the accuracy of every post on the site, we've not experienced an influx of posters who are keen to post just on this conflict (aside from a few obvious trolls that were quickly reported and banned).

Our guiding principle is to allow Mumsnetters to express their opinions, so long as they are civil and within the boundaries of the law and common decency, even when those opinions are challenging or unpalatable to some others.
