Will Mum’s net ever embrace the like button like the rest of the Internet?

I know this has been an issue for at least 20 years, but really move on

Oops at typo. Sorry.

We like to use our words, HTH.

Notcookie · 20/10/2023 13:08

I hope not. It then becomes a competition for validation.

MidnightOnceMore · 20/10/2023 13:08

I hope not, 'likes' drive shitty behaviour on many other platforms.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 20/10/2023 13:09

Why though?

If you want likes you can use any of the sites that offer them.

Not if it’s not visible to anyone but the poster, likes the thanks

ZolaBudd · 20/10/2023 13:09

It would stop the endless quoting the OP

Mamma2017 · 20/10/2023 13:10

Agree. And I’m glad they’ve added an edit button!

I do take your point.

ZolaBudd · 20/10/2023 13:11

Do people really think that this site is better than sites with likes?

It ,like any website, has its low points and animosity. Liked don’t stop that happening.

OP posts:
BlowDryRat · 20/10/2023 13:12

Agreed. I don't really see the point of the "Thanks" button.

No. Lol at YOU 😂

Also, when somebody post one of those patently ridiculous threads like” I don’t like cheese should I ban the rest of the world from eating cheese ?” only one person needs to reply and says you are a lunatic. It gets 20 million likes and this thread is done.

OP posts:
ZolaBudd · 20/10/2023 13:15

Apart from somebody calling them, Nazi, of course, which is inevitable and telling them to go for a spa day 😂

nottodaytaverymuch · 20/10/2023 13:17

Now we have the editing feature, all is well. Like buttons are lazy.

ZolaBudd · 20/10/2023 13:18

Do we? I must be using the wrong version

I don’t see what editing removes the need for a like button

OP posts:
IDidntKnowMyOwnStrength · 20/10/2023 13:19

There's no point, once I've left a reply l move on, l don't check to see if anyone agrees or not, so how would you know if you have a like and who honestly cares?

ZolaBudd · 20/10/2023 13:20

Really? You don’t go back to a thread to see how the conversation has moved on?

OP posts:
RoseAndRose · 20/10/2023 13:21

I don’t think it’s ‘been an issue’

MM doesn’t have it, lots of posters positively like that, and when MN polled users a while back, the answer was ‘no’

If it ain’t broke ….

nottodaytaverymuch · 20/10/2023 13:41

I was using the example of a much needed change in functionality on the forum. We don't need a like button.

No, not an issue maybe, but I’ve been on here for 20 years and it’s been talked about for most of those

I don't want a like button - don't do it HQ!

sprigatito · 20/10/2023 16:59

MN is one of the few precious corners of the internet that still functions as a discussion forum rather than a dopamine farm. So no, we don't need a pick-me button.

? How? People quote the OP, or anyone, to reply to them. How does a 'like' function change that?

This site is far better because it doesn't have that child, immature, passive-aggressive 'like' bs. Lets keep it that way. Don't stoop to the dregs of the internet by copying the dregs. That there is no 'like' button is one of the best things about Mumsnet. This is a more mature site. Not like the garbage sites have it.
