MN hiding threads on the Gaza situation

Another thread has been hidden whilst MN looks at it. Like the others, it won't reappear.

At what point does MN decide to hide a thread - and why? Is it because they think that it's getting too aggressive? Do they get reports of antisemitism on it ?

It does seem that a lot of these threads are being hidden - which does stifle the conversation.

OTOH - these threads are targets for people to post controversial opinions and to post and spread fake news.

Any criticism of Israel is being shouted down. Pro Palestine posters condemn Hamas, but Pro Israel are defending them (Netanyahu and the IDF) to the death, calling people who are concerned about Palestinian civilians supporters or excusers of Hamas.

Any concern about civilians dying due to lack of water and starvation is met with ‘well blame Hamas for bringing it on them’.

Thousands are searching for water and food at the moment, which had me up at 4am thinking what that must be like, unable to feed your children or give them water because Israel shut off your supplies as a collective punishment.

Hpw the world is accepting this ‘revenge’ is beyond me.

Exactly this. It's disgraceful that mumsnet is playing along.

I posted an MSNBC news clip (from their YouTube channel) about how Israel profits from using the Palestinians, in their open air prison, as target practice and then selling the weapon tech worldwide (presented by Mehdi Hasan if anyone is interested).

This is a very large, trusted news channel in the US but I got told that I was spouting lies and the whole thread was pulled a few minutes later. As if the imperialist war machine profiting from weapon sales is a new concept - I thought this was widely known.

You cannot share news stories that tell the truth, and the censorship on this website is out of control. It makes Reddit seem like the bastion of free speech by comparison.

Do you think large news channels are without bias and incapable of propagating conspiracy theories and propaganda? The terminology used here doesn’t sound balanced. Open air prison and target practice are not fact based. Removing hate speech isn’t censorship.

@HebeMumsnet was clear at the start of this thread saying it’s their filters that make threads disappear…..
So whilst reporting might have a place, I suspect it’s more down to some key words (in the OP/title?)

And it’s not just on MN either.

It seems that even the Israeli government is playing that game of ‘let’s put a lot if trolls around to influence the outcome’
Not dissimilar than what happened with brexit.

But somehow brexit threads stayed…..

I've just come over here to complain about the trolls taking over the Gaza threads. Absolutely no concern is permitted whatsoever for the Palestinians and the same names keep cropping up and are obviously pro Israel propaganda. Many of us are upset by what is happening to the Palestinian population in Gaza and to be shouted down in this way is proof of how Israel are responding to this situation.

Morning, everyone. To answer this question of how long it takes us to review hidden threads, to be honest, it differs enormously so there's no firm answer.

This morning, for example, we have been overrun with reports so it will take us longer to get to some hidden threads than others, and we try to prioritise issues that are causing the biggest problems on the boards. Additionally, there will be some threads where we want to discuss the pros and cons of deleting or unhiding them first. And, like this morning, we'll often wait to see how a story develops before deciding whether a thread should go back up or be deleted.

Sorry we can't give you a more concrete answer than that but hopefully it gives you a picture of the process at least. Particularly at the moment, we want to take enough time to make informed and considered decisions rather than rush to either delete or reinstate and potentially find it was the wrong choice.

I think the reason is that for some posters, to be pro-Palestine is to be anti-Israel. So there are probably a lot of reports of antisemitism which is simply in support of Palestine, or critical of Israel.

This is why the threads should stand. To be Pro-Palestine is not the same as Pro-Hamas.

Those who are Pro Palestinian Liberation, right or wrong and are concerned that they cannot post uninterrupted by counter opinion or have any sources that inform their opinion questioned as either true or anti Semitic.....I would suggest joining Lipstick Alley which I have been stupidly shocked to discover is a haven of barely contested support for Hamas in Pro Palestinian drag and where the barriers to anti Semitism hardly exist.

Emotional opinion and floridity of description as if the truth is incapable of being seen ( or as it is needed to be seen) has no boundary over there even if as too often on these threads the words "anti Israel" and " Zionist" have become the equivalent of the racists's " My Black friend says/ I've got a Black friend".

That was a Freudian slip of wrong equivalency , wasn't it? As if the fighting against an anti Semite's right to be anti Semitic is wrong? Because last time I looked , the words " anti Semitic" are not controversial by their literal existence to be hidden behind an acronym, unlike the n- word, are they?

It's that level of circularity that is going unchecked over LSA pertaining to Pro Palestinian supporters who sail close to and often cross the border of anti Semitism.

Which part of what I said was hate speech? Have you looked into how many Palestinians are killed in each one of these “conflicts” vs the how many Israelis? Have you looked at the conditions the Palestinians are forced to live in, even prior to this past week? Have you looked at how many Israelis oppose Netanyahu because he’s trying to make himself untouchable even through the Israeli judicial system? 66% (two thirds) of Israelis want him gone. Israelis who I have spoken to have spoken against the Israeli government.

Stop gaslighting me, please.

You can’t cry “hate speech” for someone calling a duck, a duck.

Plenty of countries make money from the wars that they incite (including the U.K.) and Israel is one of them. None of those countries have a financial incentive for world peace. That’s a fact.

Antisemitic, pro Hamas - labels shouted and repeated over and over at anyone concerned about the hell Palestinian civilians are being put through.
