Battery draining

Magnolia82 · 21/09/2023 11:55

Hi. The Mumsnet app is really draining my phone battery today. It's not normally a problem. But in approx 5-10 mins it's drained from 90% to 30%. This has happened 3 times today. Anyone else having or had this problem?

Same for me. My phone's getting quite hot when I'm on MN

ZoChan · 23/09/2023 16:21

Same here! iPhone SE 2022

LadyEloise1 · 23/09/2023 16:45

My iphone xr battery is draining really quickly too. I thought it was an update I did about a fortnight ago. But it is actually worse the last couple of days.

Oneearringlost · 23/09/2023 16:58

I'm android but haven't noticed this.

imnottoofussed · 23/09/2023 17:09

Same happening to me in the last few days, phone gets extremely hot when using mumsnet but not when using other apps, although today seems to be somewhat better.

PenhillDarkMonarch · 24/09/2023 07:38

Yep. Me too.

iPhone 13, latest iOS.

It's making the phone very hot and drinking about 10% of the battery every 10mins ish.

VisionsOfSplendour · 24/09/2023 07:50

I'm on android and use the mobile site, Mumsnet makes my phone get very hot as well which doesn't happen with other websites. I notice it most if I'm not using wifi

oobladay · 24/09/2023 08:01

Me too! IPhone SE, have not updated to the latest iOS. My phone is a couple of years old now but the battery hasn’t been a problem at all. I had to charge my phone twice yesterday - it just kept draining really quickly, and agree with posters that it was getting really hot while using the app. I deleted the app last night just to experiment after seeing this post and so far this morning all seems to have gone back to normal.

Chickydoo · 24/09/2023 08:09

Just checked my battery (ios)
Yikes, yesterday the app used 30% of my battery. No wonder I had to charge it up in the day!

toomuchlikemyusername · 24/09/2023 08:28

Same here. Super hot and draining battery. 39% usage yesterday. Latest iOS on iPhone 13 mini.

Shellingbynight · 24/09/2023 09:28

Same here. iPhone SE2022. It's been happening the last two days.

MN accounted for 86% of my battery usage in 24 hours! I turned off background refresh for MN which helped. But then I actually used the app last night, and lost 10% of battery in 10 mins and the phone heated up rapidly. So I've deleted the app.

I rebooted the phone yesterday morning, it made no difference.

It's only occurs with MN, all fine without.

tobee · 24/09/2023 16:37

Mine seems better today. Yesterday the battery was draining fast, the screen while scrolling was juddery. It was a big effort to type, it felt strangely unresponsive. The handset was hot. This is from an updated Apple device using the app.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 24/09/2023 16:56

iOS here too
Started in the last 2 days and still ongoing

smokingcarriageonly · 24/09/2023 18:09

iPhone hot and battery draining using the app.
App slow and juddery.
Ads are hard to scroll past, when they appear scrolling slows right down.
Typing comments very slow.

I'm away from home and have Covid so using the app a lot!

EllaPaella · 24/09/2023 20:00

Yep this has been happening for me on the app as well. No other apps are causing the same issue only Mumsnet

EllaPaella · 24/09/2023 20:01

@LilyMumsnet it's definitely just the mumsnet app causing the issue..

smokingcarriageonly · 24/09/2023 20:43

Maybe this is a separate issue but those Royal Match ads make the app slow and juddery when they appear. I can scroll past the other ads as normal.

bestbefore · 24/09/2023 20:47

Same for me. iPhone 13 iOS 16.6 1
Gone down from 84-78 in a few mins and feels warm - def MN app

tobee · 24/09/2023 21:11

I don't get ads so it's not as simple as that.

PenhillDarkMonarch · 24/09/2023 21:37

10 mins browsing with Chrome = battery % did not change.

10 mins on mn = battery % dropped by 11%.

tobee · 24/09/2023 22:04

I've just updated my iPhone to iOS 17.0.1 - bug fixes and security - so maybe they'll help.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 24/09/2023 22:12

I've looked and the app is responsible for 33% of my battery today (the most). On iOS

margotrose · 25/09/2023 07:54

I'm still having issues with this today.

The app is slow and juddery, my phone gets really warm scrolling it and it kills the battery.

My battery life in general has improved since the update - it's only MN that's causing problems.

HelpMeGetThrough · 25/09/2023 08:13

It's definitely the MN app. IOS 16.6.1 and it's the only app draining the battery and overheating it. All other apps are causing no problems.

Seems to me it could be related to the endless ads in threads. App becomes almost unusable at times.
