Troll hunting in FWR

WarriorN · 08/08/2023 13:54

I appreciate that mn struggled to keep on top of all the posters accusing the op of the story not being true, but it's likely that deleting the thread is exactly what they wanted.

Perhaps you could have put a warning about troll hunting is not tolerated and allow the debate to continue.

No one can with certainty say a lot of what is posted on mn 'actually happened' but the thread had discussions of women's safety issues on it which warranted remaining.

  1. What is "GC debate?"
  2. Why is it useful to anyone who is interested in defending women's rights and single sex spaces, to shut down a discussion about a child spotting and calling out a male in the female changing areas who then told his mother to educate him?

More effective to cast doubt on the veracity of the situation but go on to debate the points it's raising.

Some said "it's safer in cubicles, don't be ridiculous " - swimming pool cubicles have wide gaps at the bottom. They're not floor to ceiling.

That's how my colleague became a victim of voyerism by a male, at such a pool.

The sheer number of shouts of "troll" was suspicious imo

The threshold for this actually happening in a MN thread is already an enormously high bar. It very rarely occurs, and I can't recall a single instance of it occurring as quickly, or as comprehensively as it did in that thread.

Do you honestly think that is more indicative of a secret army of invisible posters loitering around, presumably for days on end, just in the hope someone posts something a bit improbable, rather than active users of MN spotting nonsense for what it is and calling it out?

Bear in mind, I've already highlighted the fact that the multitude of other threads on this one topic are never subject to the same treatment, yet FWR constantly reassures everyone that MRA's are completely off their rocker and will shout down anything they don't like. If that's the case, why this one thread and not all of the others?

i had hoped they would keep the thread, was reporting like mad but it's something MN really don't like to have: a Swiss-cheese thread.

The comments were very much of the TRA ilk. The DHOTYA answers are exactly that, i've stopped seeing them on twitter, so obviously they have found somewhere else to play.

I think it's fine to say: OP i don't believe you. Or isn't it?
I think it's fine to say: OP i don't believe you but if it happened this is what I'd do/I think... or isn't that allowed?

But it was actually quite pathetic to see them all come out en masse like that.

WarriorN · 08/08/2023 15:21

We will have to agree to disagree.

The early Bunbury threads were my stomping ground and I preferred to call out shit stirrers and MRAs alike in equal measure, and use the key points raised to good effect.

There were posters there who do not support fwr as at least one sneered about how the fwr board usually defends the truth and criticises TRAs for make believe. Which is what made me consider there was some bs going on.

Actually i agree. But. There is a wider discussion to be had about this kind of encroachment into women's single sex spaces that needn't look like a gang of TRAs let out of their mother's basements for the morning.

It was horrible to watch. Especialy the DHOTYA stuff. Because, if that is regular FWR members, they need to have a word with themselves.

There are dozens of threads on MN daily where the veracity of the OP is dubious, at best, yet they are permitted to stand.

All the shit ChatGPT threads (there's a particularly long OP currently hanging around with lots of equally long posts in reply to others by the OP that nearly made me chew through my desk) stay up. There must be an answer somewhere.

Nope, apparently it's against 'talk guidelines' to call into question anything the OP says as it may prevent genuine posters from posting anything. Which is why I was suspended for a week a few weeks ago.
But I think it seems weird how the posters that were calling BS on that thread were allowed to do it and instead the whole thread was deleted.

I just wish MN were consistent.

TheBrightestStarInTheSky · 08/08/2023 15:34

I thought it was heavily influenced by the response to a similar thread on here at the moment, something else to do with a changing room.

Oh should have guessed; it was a thread that was popped on the Reddit mn trolls hence the higher than usual influx of comments saying chinny reckon.

And they think I'm dim too. <waves>

OP posts:
WarriorN · 08/08/2023 15:45

The irony of having a Reddit forum because you're not allowed to troll hunt but work as a team to get threads taken down 😂

OP posts:
JenniferBarkley · 08/08/2023 15:46

Seriously it didn't need to be flagged on Reddit (or Tattle which I don't use but I have no doubt it was spotted there too). It stank of bs.

WarriorN · 08/08/2023 15:47

You've missed the point. But I've better things to do.

That was me. Because it makes FWR look bloody awful when such obvious bait is so easily accepted.

FWR is, or at least used to be, full of lots of very intelligent women who took this issue seriously. When people can post any old guff and people fall for it, it seriously undermines the credibility of the forum and makes us look like frothing bigots.

Yarnorama · 08/08/2023 15:55

Not on Reddit.

Just don't like autistic people being used as props by trolls and GFs to elicit froth.

WarriorN · 08/08/2023 15:58

I have agreed re some threads that were dubious. At the same time, many have been swung into sports casting debate. We won't know, the poster has a recent very average mn history.

Anyway, for me the bigger issue is being policed left right and centre.

OP posts:
WarriorN · 08/08/2023 16:01

froth

That wasn't what the thread was like

There were descriptions of sexual assaults.

OP posts:
Yarnorama · 08/08/2023 16:03

I only read the OP and stepped away. It may not have resulted in frothing, but that's almost certainly the intention.

And if it resulted in posters describing sexual assaults then even more reason for it to have gone.

WarriorN · 08/08/2023 16:07

Nope. Descriptions of the issues with those types of changing areas. As has been made many times before.

Froth is mentioned a lot on Reddit.

OP posts:
lifeturnsonadime · 08/08/2023 16:12

I don't like them being autistic people being used either but you don't KNOW that this is the case.

I do know that the actual harm that is being done to autistic people is that so many autistic girls have been convinced they must be boys because they don't adhere naturally to gendered stereotypes. Some might call that eugenics.

Far worse than claiming that an autistic child might speak the truth, which in my experience with 2 autistic children and being autistic myself, they might!

WarriorN · 08/08/2023 16:16

I wouldn't bother life. Both threads are on r/MNtrolls.

OP posts:
WarriorN · 08/08/2023 16:17

I wouldn't bother life. Both threads are on the Reddit site (that's clearly got a mn filter 😂)

OP posts:
WarriorN · 08/08/2023 16:19

You've got to laugh at the mental gymnastics of trying to work out who is silencing who and who is trolling who here... 🤣
