GOML I think that thread reached its limit, some people bumped and bumped deliberately to ensure that - it was amusing though.

Boco · 26/02/2008 13:14

carifarkingbean

hahahahahaha

Mercy · 26/02/2008 13:14

Ooooh, an unmasking!

Boco, I understand what you mean.

S1ur · 26/02/2008 13:15

The saucepan fetish was funny as fuck!

As for sending money, if you'd give money on the spot to a stranger in a pub selling a sob story then fine give away your dosh willy nilly on here. its a bit dumb though. Otherwise save it for people or posters you have some kind of longer relationship with.

GetOrfMoiLand · 26/02/2008 13:15

that thread did make me laugh. Everytime I came on mn for 2 days it was at the top of active convos

Flier · 26/02/2008 13:16

I've obviously missed a huge hooha over a troll thread. Can anyone please fill me in?

onepieceoflollipop · 26/02/2008 13:17

GOML I know, what I found the funniest was that it was such a simple, basic OP and hundreds of mnetters seemed compelled to respond. Unbelievable.

think the funny ones are amusing. the pirate sex one (that hasnt been mentioned for a while)/the sex with the milk farmer one/the baby at the wedding of last week.

But the serious ones play on peoples' emotions and dv/premature birth are two very emotive subjects, so to combine that into one thread was bound to leave emotions running high.

But i do think that people that send presents/offer money to strangers over the internet are barking.

onepieceoflollipop · 26/02/2008 13:19

Flier I miss most of the hoohas on here. Don't worry about it

Sometimes you read a great thread and as you look back there are loads of messages deleted by mnet. Am I the only one to WISH I had been there and seen what the poster had put that was so awful!

LazyLinePainterJane · 26/02/2008 13:20

I love trolls. At least it's funny sometimes.

Lulumama · 26/02/2008 13:20

huge difference between trolls who stir up stuff about saucepans or weddings, and ones who post about domestic violence or abuse or prem birth... all of which are things that a number of Mnetters have endured... and give their time and invest emotional energy into the thread. becasue it is not always beyond the realms of possibility that someone is bieng beaten so badly they go into prem labour...

the saddest thing about those sort of troll threads is that they hurt people who have endured it for real, and stop people posting advice in the future for fear of it turning out to be a troll again..

onepieceoflollipop · 26/02/2008 13:21

Sorry to be thick what is dv/prem birth (the dv bit I mean)

DumbledoresGirl · 26/02/2008 13:21

I have never understood why trolls upset people so much.

I am gobsmacked that people offer money to complete strangers.

GetOrfMoiLand · 26/02/2008 13:21

lol at cod's summary

DumbledoresGirl · 26/02/2008 13:22

dv = diarrhoea and vomiting.

Oh and domestic violence.

DualCycloneCod · 26/02/2008 13:22

onepieceoflollipop · 26/02/2008 13:23

Just worked it out from Lulu's post - dv domestic violence.

D&V is different DumbledoresGirl but thanks

onepieceoflollipop · 26/02/2008 13:24

SOrry DDG just saw the lower part of your post...

Lulumama · 26/02/2008 13:24

often the trolling touches a nerve:

domestic violence

suicidal thoughts/ depression

prem birth

all things that will touch a nerve and pull at the heartstrings

more chance of getting money and help off people, isn;t there?

i would still prefer to think that the perpertrators of such trolling are ill/unstable rather than perfectly stable and laughing their heads off at the posters helping and offering sympathy

hecate · 26/02/2008 13:24

Depends.

Sometimes it's fun, just playing.
Sometimes it's done to annoy, and then it's fun to trade insults.
But sometimes it's done to scam or to hurt, and that's not nice at all, especially when people are left feeling vulnerable, exposed or foolish.
But I also think that sometimes things can be OTT and people can get - I don't quite know how to put it - high on the drama of it.
But such is the nature of the internet.

DumbledoresGirl · 26/02/2008 13:24

Thanks. That joke fell flat then.
