Back button weirdness.

I was hoping someone else would have asked about this because I'm not sure I can describe what's happening in a way that makes sense. But since yesterday something weird has been going on with Mumsnet when I use the back button to return to active.

If I'm on Mumsnet, then I leave for a bit with the active page showing, I generally refresh the page when I come back so I can see the current crop of active threads. If I pick one to read, then use the back button on my browser to return to active, I see the old list of threads from before I refreshed. So I have to refresh again, but then I see the new up-to-date list of active threads and so lose the list of active threads I was browsing, because it's moved on. I remember that active always refreshed with use of the back button after the site was upgraded, and it annoyed me and evidently some other people because it was mentioned in site stuff. This is not the same thing but has the same effect.

I am using Chrome on an Android tablet. I never sign in unless I'm posting n case that makes a difference, and I haven't tested to see if it happens now that I am signed in. Is it happening for anyone else?

I have exactly the same

It's driving me mad!!!!

I open active and have a glance at a list of potentially interesting threads, but as soon as I click on one and then attempt to go back, the active list has changed again (and it seems to be showing older posts as the list seems to always end with the same thread)

I have managed to find a temporary work around by using CONTROL and SHIFT together before clicking the link - this opens the thread in a new tab but it's massively annoying.

Using Chrome on a laptop.

Hello @flourella and @GMOOH2023 thanks for posting. It may be related to this, which we're currently investigating. Have you also seen the expired notification by any chance?

Expired page notification | Mumsnet

Mumsnet makes parents' lives easier by pooling knowledge, advice and support on everything from conception to childbirth, from babies to teenagers.

hernameis · 25/03/2023 13:59

Same and I got the expired notification

ShowOfHands · 25/03/2023 14:02

I noticed this last night. It's a total pita.

ShowOfHands · 25/03/2023 14:03

Nothing to do with an expired page warning here. Just a completely unexpected active convos when clicking back.

GMOOH2023 · 25/03/2023 14:33

@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet

Yes, I have also had the expired notification a couple of times - only seems to happen when I have been away from the laptop for a long time though.

PlateBilledDuckyPerson · 25/03/2023 14:51

Me too and am also having the expired thing.

flourella · 25/03/2023 14:52

@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet no, I haven't seen the expired page thing any more than I usually do. I saw it once earlier today, when coming to Mumsnet after being asleep for however many hours, but that's normal for me.

flourella · 25/03/2023 14:56

I see people are talking about the thing with active on that thread. I saw the thread title but didn't open it when I was looking for my issue in site stuff, because it doesn't seem related to the problem I'm having.

OP posts:
GMOOH2023 · 25/03/2023 15:07

I have just noticed that it also resets the post count.

I have posted twice on a thread in active today but I just refreshed active and that thread shows as 0 replies.

Clicking on the thread displays it as normal - with all the replies.

VölligLosgelöst · 25/03/2023 19:14

I'm using chrome on a Samsung, logged in, getting expired lage notifications more often, and my back button function has gone wonky af, it's disorientating!

Seeline · 25/03/2023 19:22

Yes to both. Using mobile site via chrome on android phone.

Rogue1001MNer · 25/03/2023 20:05

Me too.

Bloody annoying.

Using my mobile (android) phone

flourella · 26/03/2023 13:12

Oh no, now the expired page message is coming up for me every time I back out of a thread. I haven't noticed the active threads rearranging themselves today, but I have clocked a couple of instances of the thread counts resetting to zero when it does happen, like a PP.

OP posts:
GMOOH2023 · 26/03/2023 13:48

Still just as bad today!

When I refresh active I am sometimes seeing the same threads as yesterday and if I click on the thread there are no new posts.

flourella · 26/03/2023 14:42

I suppose I just hadn't been on Mumsnet for very long today when I posted earlier, but the active threads list is still all over the place for me as well. Expired page message gone again for now though thank fuck

OP posts:
BloomingHyacinths · 26/03/2023 15:16

I've been getting this for a few days.

This page has expired.
Would you like to refresh the page?

anewbook · 26/03/2023 21:57

This back button business has been driving me mad.
Thanks for raising it OP. I didn’t really know how to articulate it clearly!

Pinkishpurpleyblue · 26/03/2023 22:21

Yep im getting it on android phone. Getting the expired message too. Driving me crazy

ValenciaOrange · 28/03/2023 10:57

Yes me too, no expired messages but a completely different list of active convos when I go back to them on android.

GMOOH2023 · 28/03/2023 12:15

@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet

Is there any update on this?

The "active" thread list very much isn't.

I can refresh it after a number of hours and whilst some of the threads will change, there are all sorts hanging about which haven't been posted on since I last looked.

I had to stop using "last day" because after the "upgrade" it just started refreshing every time I used the back button, and now it seems the same is happening with Active.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 28/03/2023 17:06

Hi @GMOOH2023 thanks for your patience. We found an issue with a
Active where the threads looked like they were being pushed out of order on each refresh but we deployed some releases yesterday that should have solved the problem.

There are a few different comments about how Active is behaving and some are describing how we'd expect it to. So just to summarise:

If you refresh the page, it should show the current Active threads.
If you are in a thread, then hit the back button to return to Active, you will see the old list of threads before you refreshed.

If you refresh again, you will see the latest Active threads and not the previous list you were browsing.

If I'm on Mumsnet, then I leave for a bit with the active page showing, I generally refresh the page when I come back so I can see the current crop of active threads.

We would say that if you see a thread that you want to come back to, add it to your watch list or click the 'save thread' button, where it will appear in your lists. If any of this isn't clear, please let us know. Thank you.

Hi, I'm having this same problem. Its not that tapping back takes you back to the last "active" list, it actually goes back to active from a few hours ago. So in order to see the current active you have to tap active (or tap back and then refresh) but that means any others you may have been interested in from the last "active" (this is really confusing to type, sorry) will possibly then disappear.
I'm on sick leave from work at the moment and don't have a lot else to do other than mumsnet so I can see how it's happening in "real time" so to speak.

eyerings · 28/03/2023 17:32

So the first screenshot is the refreshed "active". I click into a thread from there (second screenshot) and then clicking back takes me to an active from several hours ago. Refreshing this takes me to a new active. If I then go into another thread and click back, it will take me back to the same active from a few hours ago.

I'm getting exactly the same as @eyerings. Using Safari desktop if that helps.
