Why so many deletions?

Three threads I'm on have been deleted today. I can't see why. They had personal info in them like many threads, but when I was in that situation previously and asked for my thread to be deleted I was told that feeling uncomfortable was not a reason for a thread to be deleted.

It seems to be happening more and more. On some threads I've even seen the OP say that she'll get MNHQ to remove the thread!
I post in good faith and know there are some people who don't. The deleted threads today would all have been useful to others, even if they were by hairy bridge dwellers. None were identifying.

Would it be possible to clarify for what reasons a thread will be deleted - and not? Because then I can have more of an idea which threads to not waste my time replying to.

Hello @daretodenim we always try and avoid deleting threads where possible but we take these things on a case-by-case basis. The deletion message should give you a clear reason for removal but if that's not the case, you can get in touch with us directly at [email protected].

The ambulance thread was hidden while we went through reports (lots of personal attacks). We reinstated it but have closed to new posts because we didn't feel it was helpful to the OP who was clearly having a hard enough time as it was.

Morning, @GCAcademic . We've had a look back at that thread. The OP did ask for the thread to go a few times, and at first, we didn't feel that was necessary. However, a little later on, there were quite a few posts that constituted really nasty personal attacks. We won't repeat them in detail here and dredge it all up again but feel free to email in if you'd like us to go through it in more detail.

Anyway, the upshot was, the posts were getting increasingly nasty and were personal rather than simply giving feedback or disagreeing in a civil way. We felt by then that we'd have to delete an awful lot of posts in order to keep the thread going but also, it had just crossed a line and we didn't think it was going to be retrievable really.

Hope that explains it a bit more clearly. Flowers
