Is it just me - this site is SO SLOW!

It takes ages to load, to scroll and crashes quite frequently. I don't have this problem with the other tabs I have open.

This morning it is awful. There's a few seconds lag after clicking Active threads or Threads i'm on and scrolling through as well. Chrome, Macbook pro. I don't have to clear cookies for other websites to run quick enough.

Suuper slow again this morning. It was a PITA just to navigate back to this thread. Chrome, apple again.

I’m getting the same problems/messages as ArcaneWireless and it’s also the Strictly threads. I’ve noticed though that it’s only happening on the ones where someone’s added a lot of videos - the Strictly threads that are predominantly just comments seem to be fine, but those with lots of videos just won’t load. I’m on either iPhone or iPad using safari.

AgentProvocateur · 23/10/2022 09:38

I’m constantly getting the same message as @ArcaneWireless since the “upgrade”

Mabelface · 23/10/2022 09:50

The ads definitely slow things down. Threads freeze for a moment whilst the ads load. S20 on chrome.

ArcaneWireless · 25/10/2022 21:01

Changed the amount of posts on a page. Quite significantly. You were right. It helped.

Tried to read the strictly thread tonight after no problems for a few days.

Got this again. 🤬

MomwasCasual · 25/10/2022 21:04

Same for me on the Strictly thread, I do think it must be due to the quantity of videos posted on there.

ArcaneWireless · 25/10/2022 21:22

No offence but glad it isn’t just me mom - I thought I’d either have to bin my phone or bin MN. 😢

No definitely not just you!

I couldn't post at all on Sat night whilst the show was actually on 😭which was annoying. Then the newest thread was fine, until this evening, when it became unpostable-on again for me.

ArcaneWireless · 25/10/2022 21:30

Oh I had to give up on some threads. I usually put my tuppence in much later on.

I shall have to bribe my phone to process things faster - perhaps I can buy it a new case. With a battery pack attached.

LaGioconda · 26/10/2022 17:44

It went very slow after the site change, then improved a bit, but the last few days it has gone back to being terrible.

Changing the number of posts on a page doesn't really help, because you get the delay every time you move to a new page which, cumulatively, means that no time is saved at all. Plus it's really annoying having to flip between pages.

FreezyFreezy · 26/10/2022 17:49

Typing a response on a long thread is also deeply annoying because it's so slow and has a delay between the typing and the text appearing. Most of the time I give up. It doesn't happen on any other site.

Can we ask what device and browser you're using, and how many posts you're viewing per page? And can you let us know if you have tried clearing your cache? Flowers

ArcaneWireless · 26/10/2022 18:40

Hello Lily flower.

iphone (ancient) and safari, normal site not mobile.

I did go from all posts to 100 and it did work for a while.

Just tried going down to 50 and that works at the mo.

Cache cleared before. Just tried to 50 without clearing it this time and isn’t a problem so far.

Thank you 😊

nickelbabe · 26/10/2022 18:45

Constantly too slow.

Typing is painful and laborious.
it's the only website tthat does it, and it's been doing it for a very long time.

Firefox nightly on android

Thank you so much, sounds good but let us know if you have further issues. Cake
@nickelbabe how many posts are you viewing per page?

Lougle · 26/10/2022 21:49

Sorry to whine on but it can't seriously be a solution to have to change to 50 posts per page?? What efforts are MNHQ taking to fix the site? You've upgraded to a worse platform. I seriously hope you got at least a partial refund.

ArcaneWireless · 26/10/2022 22:20

I’m banking on it being short term lougle

really banking

nickelbabe · 28/10/2022 10:01

@LilyMumsnet I've changed it to 100 since the replies on this thread, but I just did an advanced search and it ttook 3 attempts to get it to type in the box.

General typing seems to be better since, but I've nnot replied much since changing it.
Still getting random double letters...

nickelbabe · 28/10/2022 10:02

I do have to say, though, historically, reading 1000 comments didn't use to make everything really slow.
I stopped using the site for ages because of how slowit became.

Well, exactly. You can't claim a site has improved if actually it has become more difficult to use in the same way as people did previously.

LaGioconda · 28/10/2022 10:40

I actually think 1000 posts to a page should be the default option. People complain about posters who haven't bothered to read all OP's posts, you can see why they don't if it means having to load up to ten separate pages to do it properly.
