Hi,
I’m getting a side bar covering almost all of the screen in safari, it won’t go when cross is clicked. I’ve tried quitting browser and refreshing etc. Looks like this picture. Any ideas?

Hi OP

Could you provide a full screen screenshot for us and let us know if your browser is up to date?

FaintlyMacabre · 22/09/2022 16:08

Hi, that should be a full screenshot- and I’ll check the browser. You’ve reminded me I need to do an iOS update so it could be that?

Sorry - thought it was cropped!
Yes please do an update and let us know what happens.

ScarlettDarling · 22/09/2022 16:39

I’m having the same problem. I can’t see the full screen on my iPad because the side bar won’t close

tripledecker · 22/09/2022 16:42

Same issue here.

MRSAHILL · 22/09/2022 16:51

I'm having exactly the same issue. The side bar won't close when I press on the x so I can't see my messages, notifications etc

LilyMumsnet · 22/09/2022 16:51

Hi all

We think it may well be a cache problem, which should be fairly easy to sort from your end.

If you don't know how to clear your cache, you can find instructions on how to do it here: www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Browser%27s-Cache

If that doesn't sort the problem out, please don't hesitate to come back to us and we'll have another look into how to solve this.

MRSAHILL · 22/09/2022 17:02

Hi I've done the clear browsing data and it still won't let me view my account because that sidebar is in the way and won't disappear when I press the x

EtiquetteQuestion · 22/09/2022 17:05

Same issue here. Had to come onto the laptop to post this.

Using Chrome browser.

EtiquetteQuestion · 22/09/2022 17:11

Have also just cleared browsing data and it's still there.

Waterlooville · 22/09/2022 17:11

Me too, have come onto a laptop to report it. I can't use the site on my android phone.

Sadik · 22/09/2022 17:14

Not working on Chrome on a Mac either, massive block covering the top of the screen, and it's not possible to post (no box to type into under 'message')

Sadik · 22/09/2022 17:15

Sending this from my phone which does work (Chrome / Android)

Sadik · 22/09/2022 17:17

Clearing the cache doesn't help

LilyMumsnet · 22/09/2022 17:27

Hi all

We're really sorry about this and thanks for trying our suggestions. We'll try and get to the bottom of this ASAP.

NiteNight · 22/09/2022 17:27

Same problem here on Google Chrome browser on Android, Xiaomi mi A1.
However on the Chrome beta browser it works fine.

FaintlyMacabre · 22/09/2022 17:43

I did my overdue software update and it’s gone . It was working fine in Chrome before as well, just not Safari.

I have the same issue on an Android phone using Chrome, I cannot cancel the box that is over the top of the pages, I've tried going to different pages but it is still the same. It looks exactly as the OP picture shows.
So I cannot use my phone to look at Mumsnet at all - posting this on a laptop.

Marmight · 22/09/2022 19:12

I was having this problem on a mac book using chrome.
I cleared the cache from the last 24 hours and then restarted chrome.
All sorted now 😎

NiteNight · 22/09/2022 19:14

@MinkyTunes why not install a different browser or Chrome beta browser or the Mumsnet app until the problem is resolved.

MinkyTunes · 22/09/2022 19:30

@NiteNight thank you so much, I didn't see your message above about Chrome beta browser. I installed that, and the site now works normally on my phone thank you!

I'm hoping that they can fix it for the normal chrome browser.

ChiefFinderOuter · 22/09/2022 20:19

Same for me on an iPhone. I upgraded to the latest iOS and it now works. Before that, I was completely locked out. The menu was covering half the screen and couldn’t be closed using the ‘x’.

Eightiesgirl · 22/09/2022 21:07

I deleted the app on my phone then reinstalled it and the sidebar has now gone.

EtiquetteQuestion · 23/09/2022 07:59

Just to report that I'm still having the same problem this morning. I cleared the cache yesterday and I also updated all apps which needed updating (I don't think Chrome was one of them though). Turned my phone on and off, but that annoying side bar which won't go away is still there.

I'm hoping I won't need to uninstall and reinstall Chrome for the issue to be resolved as I'll lose all my open tabs 😩
