New feature update - Dark Mode

Hi everyone,

We just launched a new feature - dark mode view.

If you would like to try it, please go to Settings > Display, and there you will see 3 options:
-Default view - shows light or dark mode depending on your device settings
-Light view - shows the current view
-Dark view - shows the dark colour variant

The settings change will only affect the device you use to make the change. We’d love to hear what you think of this feature, so let us know in the comments what you think 😊

Thanks @NermanaMumsnet - managed to get it to switch… however as the op distinguishing green isn’t clearly visible I want to switch back - but now having the same issue in reverse- each time I click on “light” and save, it flicks back to dark mode option and doesn’t update

I’ve switched to dark mode and I can’t switch back! I choose the light mode radio button, hit save changes and it immediately switches back to the dark mode one

I really like dark mode but agree that the colour for the OPs posts isn’t quite different enough.

As above PP, I appreciate the dark mode and only have quibbles about the contrast, whether of OP/my posts or of quoted text.

I agree about the lack of colour contrast for OP and own posts. Apart from that, dark mode is good. Thanks!

I am sorry to hear that some of you still have issues with the dark mode settings.

I've turned it on to give it a try, even though I dislike dark modes in general. It's definitely challenging with the colours chosen to illustrate MN posts, OP posts, my posts. The dark green of OP posts doesn't stand out very well. The dark teal of MN posts seems okay and the purple of my posts is alright as well.

As ever, it would be good to know what accessibility testing MN have done on the colours, esp for contrast.

your tech team have been in touch but bacuakky just said “oh right… we’ll look into that” and haven’t heard anything since.

it’s bloody hard to read in dark mode, it’s the most unreadable dark mode I’ve ever seen on a website. Bizarre as I prefer dark mode on most other sites

It doesn’t work on my iPhone with Safari. As others have said, I select Dark Mode but when I click on Save Changes, the option flicks back Light Mode.

It’s a real shame because I’ve been hoping for dark mode for years.

I haven’t managed to record a video, sorry, but I’m also on an iPhone on safari but with the opposite experience to FuoriComeUnBalcone

We think clearing your cache/Mumsnet cookies will resolve this - are you able to give it a go?

Echoing others: thank you so much for adding this, my eyes are grateful for the rest. Colour differentiation isn’t super though (Safari) so very hard to tell posts apart.

Just seen this. Love the "idea" of dark mode, but echo what most have said, it is very difficult on the eyes to read the white text. If you compare with something like google search where the text is grey it is much softer.

Also the differentation of colour between OP/own posts is not enough. Will be switching back for now, but look forward to the issues being solved.

I love it on the desktop but it isn't available on my iPhone? Is there an update I have missed or is it coming soon?
