AIBU threads

Every time I start an AIBU thread (which I know I shouldn't really) there are always a number of people who come on and say "god how can you even worry about something so trivial" "how can you get upset about this"

The thing is, quite often I am not actually that upset or worked up about the issue, it's more a case of debating/canvassing opinions. So what I'm saying is AIBU to think that starting an AIBU thread shouldn't necessarily elicit these responses?

have you gone completely mad?

Enid · 22/01/2008 19:46

seriously emkana I am quite worried about you

WendyWeber · 22/01/2008 19:46

Oh emkana, you are funny

No, YANBU. Some people just have too much time on their hands

lulumama · 22/01/2008 19:46

surely that is the whole point of the AIBU threads? everyone gives their take on it, and very often they tend to show a majority view.....

and you are more likely to get a black and white answer with AIBU as the answers are YABU or YANBU.. so YABU

I think !

claricebeansmum · 22/01/2008 19:46

LOL

WendyWeber · 22/01/2008 19:47

Starting with Enid

emkana · 22/01/2008 19:47

Enid please explain?

OP posts:
emkana · 22/01/2008 19:50

What I'm trying to say, but failing, is that of course I start the thread to get viewpoints, but there's no need to go into the whole "only a madwoman would even worry about this" thing. It's generally not issues that keep me awake at night, just stuff I might be idly pondering while peeling the potatoes or suchlike. So all the FFS's are quite unneccessary IMHO. But never mind, I'll stop, I don't think I'm explaining it very well.

If you ask the question (Am I being unreasonable)it would be unreasonable to not expect to get an answer! And sometimes you are not going to like the answer. 'fraid that's life!

But I think - and have said many times - that it should be split into 2 - AIBU, where you want opinions, and INAR, where you need a rant.

I assume you meant to put this in AIBU, not site stuff!

lulumama · 22/01/2008 19:52

twas ever thus emkana! people like to give opinions and be quite forceful , and even when the issue seems trivial, people have strong reactions

i think you are overanalysing

emkana · 22/01/2008 19:53

Of course I want answers, as many as possible, that's the fun of it. Just reasonable ones.

Hecate, that's a very good idea, to divide it into two sections like that. And so, for example, I would have put the "calling between 6 and 7.30" thread into the opinions section.

And I put this into site stuff because I'm pondering the nature of AIBU threads in general.

OP posts:
Hecate · 22/01/2008 19:54

oh, x posts. I get you now.

But if you post little trivial stuff in AIBU, it is quite reasonable to be told yes, it's trivial!!

  • and I agree FFS is always rude and unneccessary imo. I HATE it when people post that!!
Enid · 22/01/2008 19:54

I think you are spending too much time on here if you are thinking about things this deeply

seriously

emkana · 22/01/2008 19:56

Enid, I have no idea how you can tell from my posts that I'm wondering about things "this deeply", or how I let things "get to me", as you suggested on the other thread.

I am fine, and thank you for worrying about me.

OP posts:
emkana · 22/01/2008 19:58

This is actually just another trivial issue I was pondering while performing mundane household tasks, and once again I am stunned to get such a strong reaction as yours Enid.

There's absolutely no need for it IMO.

WendyWeber · 22/01/2008 19:59

INAR is an excellent idea (and would probably halve the number of threads in AIBU)

lulumama · 22/01/2008 20:00

hang about, i said something very similar to enid !! i do think that you are worrying too much
sometimes people post quickly, it can be a gut reaction.. you see something that appears trivial or not worth worrying about and you say oh FFs, in rl, a friend would probably snap something similar

Enid · 22/01/2008 20:00

well it takes all sorts

Greensleeves · 22/01/2008 20:00

no it doesn't!

Hecate · 22/01/2008 20:01

It is a great idea, isn't it. MNHQ never obey listen to me.

Enid · 22/01/2008 20:02

god no please

chat was supposed to be all the ranty threads

Enid · 22/01/2008 20:02

anyway I may still call someone bonkers whatever the blinkin topic title

emkana · 22/01/2008 20:05

Enid you call me paranoid as well as mad now but it really feels as if you don't like me, which is obviously really crazy because you don't even know me.

OP posts:
Enid · 22/01/2008 20:07

no actually I feel as though I do like you

if you are not seriuosly worried by any of the aibu threads you start then obv you are fine

you sound worried though and I think you are over thinking stuff
