This has happened before a few years back.

It is randomly downloading files f.txt. followed by numbers, It is currently at number 34 so 34 files have downloaded so far.

Christ! Mumsnet this is embarrassing. Absolutely shocking that you’ve let this happen and it’s still happening.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/07/2022 09:43

I keep getting messages asking if I want to download.

Polgara2 · 17/07/2022 09:44

I normally use the app but that’s playing silly beggars as well so I’ve resorted to safari. Now getting same as @hellsbells99 a pop up asking to download.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 17/07/2022 12:21

How is it possible that this has not been sorted yet? We have identified the problem which is the cellular ad, why has it not been removed?

This is still happening for me

Signalbox · 17/07/2022 14:22

This has started happening to me within the last few days.
I've just had 6 downloads in 15 minutes today.
Seems to be getting more frequent. I use Safari version 15.5

Signalbox · 17/07/2022 14:23

Mine isn't even asking permission to download. It just does it automatically which is a worry.

Looks like this...

Hi again, we're really sorry that this issue is taking so long to resolve.

We're doing what we can behind the scenes to block the ads which may be causing these pop-ups. In the meantime, please try clearing your cache as that may help. If you need assistance with this, we can talk you through the steps across different browsers.

Please bear with us - we'll be back with an update as soon as we can.

downtonupton · 17/07/2022 15:10

I use AdBlock to avoid it - Mumsnet probably wont like that as they make money from advertising but it worked for me

CeeceeBloomingdale · 17/07/2022 15:12

This is tedious, clearing cache doesn’t do anything

Hello everyone. The pop up you're seeing is caused by an ad on the page and right now, we're trying to identify which ad it is. In the meantime, clearing your cache might stop it. If you need help doing this, please let us know what browser you're using and we'll take you through the steps.

This is why I use an ad blocker on everything. It makes the internet so much better, and ads cannot be trusted.

I get that websites need to make money, but they also need to adequately police the ads that they are serving.

If any website committed to serving only static image ads (ie no auto play videos, no JavaScript, no popups, pop under, fly out or any of the rest of that shit) then I would white list it.

exexpat · 17/07/2022 15:35

Has this been fixed yet? I am avoiding MN on my laptop until it is. I also think it was the 'cellular' ad causing the problem.

Signalbox · 17/07/2022 15:42

Clearing Cache doesn’t work for me. It’s not fixed. I wonder why mumsnet don’t just remove the advert. Does anyone know if the download carries any security risks?

burnoutbabe · 17/07/2022 15:56

i get it for the advert for cannabis skincare/oil?

These aren't pop-ups, they are downloads and clearing the cache doesn't do anything.

Signalbox · 17/07/2022 18:10

Yes they are definitely downloads not pop-ups.

Laughingravy · 17/07/2022 18:15

If they know which advert it is why isn't it deleted until it's been fixed?

MagentaRocks · 17/07/2022 19:42

Still happening.

WiddlinDiddlin · 17/07/2022 19:57

Yep, happening to me too.

Hadn't spotted which ad was showing, last time it did it was when I opened a posters diagram in AIBU.

PC user, Windows 11, browsing using Firefox. Cache cleared twice since it first started and still happening.

pilates · 17/07/2022 20:50

It’s still happening and I’m getting a delay in typing 😬

Skinnermarink · 17/07/2022 21:02

They won’t actually do much to fix it until tomorrow, I doubt they’ve got the IT support on the weekend. Seems to be something that just isn’t invested in as it should be on this site.

QuebecBagnet · 17/07/2022 21:03

Same on my iPad. I’m not impressed that I’m unwillingly downloading potential dodgy files.

Meercat3 · 18/07/2022 08:35

I'm still getting these files downloaded too. Any idea when the issue will be sorted?
I have tried clearing the cache. And yes, definitely downloads as supposed to pop-ups
