Mumsnet going down every night

Why does this keep happening? A few nights recently (inc last night and tonight) mumsnet goes offline from approx 9.30-10.30. The app stops working, the site won't load, and online down sectors report the servers as non-responsive.

I tend to read Mumsnet around 11pm each night. Last 2 nights it won't load and says it's my internet connection. It isn't as I can access everything else on my phone. Log out and then back in and it keeps saying log in failed. Leave it 10 mins then can log in. What's going on?
Still haven't solved my ' I'm on' and 'watching' threads that appear to have new comments but don't.

Apologies that this is happening.

We’re experiencing an issue with one of our servers which is causing downtime. Unfortunately, it’s not an easily-diagnosed issue and we’ve been making changes to mitigate it for the past week or so. Each one of those mitigations helped us to rule out another variable to try to get to the solution.

We think we’ve found the problem and are currently provisioning a brand new server to replace the one that is having issues.

@RebOrHon The 5-second delay is a mechanism to space requests to the site out to help the affected server recover. It’s primary use case is to mitigate DDoS (distributed denial of service) attacks. In this case, however, it was being used to allow the affected server to not become overwhelmed by our normal user traffic.

We understand how frustrating this is and we’re doing everything we can to prevent this from happening.

Yep it appears every night. I don't even know what DDos is . It's tiresome so I just shut it down I'm not on the app

@JaneJeffer We tried everything we could to revive it but in the end we had to replace it!

@buckeejit Thanks for your understanding. It’s super frustrating for us too when something goes down! Fingers crossed that replacing the affected server has cured the problem 🤞🏻

@MattTech Would it be possible for you to put a statement on Twitter or Facebook when there's are issues? It's very frustrating to not know why you can't log in. Good communication is key!

This is why we need a like button! I came on to say exactly the same thing. It's so frustrating and I'm starting to give up trying to login in the evenings now.

Yes, this! 👆👆👆 I keep going on Twitter and Facebook to see if there is any explanation for why I can't get on but there's nothing.
