I know there are a million threads on this site already but mn your accessibility (or lack thereof) is shocking.

I am a voiceover user using mn on safari because to be frank the app was never very accessible and from what I read wasn’t that user friendly even if you didn’t need a screenreader so I never bothered to complain about it.

But since the new update, I can no longer:

bold/highlight/underline etc because the keyboard shortcuts no longer exist.

Can no longer tag users because the keyboard command to do that no longer exists.

Can no longer insert emoticons because although I can access the drop down every single one of the emoticons is unlabelled and simply reads “undefined”. Quote function was never accessible anyway but at least I could highlight text, now all any voiceover user or anyone who relied on keyboard shortcuts for that matter can do is type,a response. No tagging, no quoting other posters, no emoticons (although I can plum the depths of apple emogi’s for that if I so wish).

Glitches which make the site clunky are annoying and irritating.

Glitches which mean you’re freezing out your disabled users are unacceptable.

As apparently the biggest parenting site in the UK you really should be aiming to do better than this.

I'm sorry to read you are having these problems, these are beyond annoyances and into the realms of you being excluded.

Staffordshireknotter · 26/04/2022 07:06

That's absolutely shocking, thanks for bringing it to our attention.

kolomo · 26/04/2022 07:11

Oh this is terrible. MNHQ please contact the Paciello Group and get this fixed
www.tpgi.com/accessibility-solutions/audit-and-reviews/ or DM me for professional advice.

Just posting so this can be seen again. This is really poor @MNHQ

AlternativePerspective · 26/04/2022 11:35

Even when I post on this thread it isn’t showing in threads I’m on or even in active.

And that’s assuming I don’t get your patronising “we’re just having a cup of tea” our server and site is shite error.

OP posts:
FlatCheese · 26/04/2022 11:40

This is terrible, OP. As far as I know, the best way to draw it to their attention is to report your post (I've already done so, I hope you don't mind). Accessibility should never be an optional extra.

AlternativePerspective · 26/04/2022 12:46

Thank you :-) tbh I am horrified at the fact this site was apparently 3 years in the making, and it’s still so full of bugs you would think it was a first draught.

Their developers must be laughing all the way to the bank.

I agree with you OP, its just not good enough. Just posting this to keep this thread active!

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 26/04/2022 14:28

I have made comments on other threads but you've been far more focused than me.

I am physically disabled. Actually hitting some of the very small arrows or digits to navigate around is a bit hit or miss now. I liked the larger navigation buttons and just tapping a post to go to it from Threads I'm On.

I also found it easy to type :) to get a smiley. This no longer resolves.

3 years in the making? A basic free bulletin board software would work better than this.

Itwasntmeright · 26/04/2022 14:38

VoiceOver user here as well, and I concur on all points. I’ve just opened the emoticon drop down and all I’m getting is undefined undefined undefined, that is not very helpful is it.

FlibbertyGiblets · 26/04/2022 14:41

I am sorry to hear this. I hope HQ can provide some reassurance that they are listening and are actively searching for solutions.

SpindleInTheWind · 26/04/2022 14:49

I agree I'm finding it much harder to use.

When I use my laptop (much better for accessibility - sensory impairments - as I've got certain software on it) I can't see the images that MNers post because they're far too small and often fuzzy.

Whether I use the phone or my laptop, the amount of scrolling needed is too much at times for my physical disability. (The site is unusable on my tablet.)

Three years??!

theDudesmummy · 26/04/2022 14:49

This is really bad and MNHQ needs to address this urgently.

AlternativePerspective · 26/04/2022 15:16

i am bumping this again. Come on MNHQ are you not going to even bother to comment here?

FlibbertyGiblets · 26/04/2022 16:22

Hello I have reported your opening post to Mumsnet headquarters, to draw it to their attention. I hope you can get answers this week.

Best wishes.

Thelnebriati · 27/04/2022 00:10

Still nothing from MNHQ?

Still nothing from MNHQ?

Seems not. Not even a holding reply to say hey there, we are needing to speak with Steve our Original Tech in the USA, so please bear with us. Embarrassing.

Aquamarine1029 · 27/04/2022 00:20

This thread will probably "magically disappear" soon.

AmberLynn1536 · 27/04/2022 01:32

I’m appalled by this and even more appalled your complaints have not even been acknowledged by @MNHQ.

alexdgr8 · 27/04/2022 03:27

well that says it all, really.

milkyaqua · 27/04/2022 03:37

This is really upsetting to read. The silence on this is upsetting also.

CiderJolly · 27/04/2022 03:46

Sorry to hear this @AlternativePerspective

I have also reported to draw attention to your thread. Hope you get a quick resolution.
