Mumsnet Talk re-platforming - Known issues update

Hi all,
As you probably know we re-plaftormed the site overnight on Tuesday (in order to move to a faster, more stable and secure site which would be easier to develop new features on). There are a number of issues and bugs as a result of the move that we are working through and we thought it would be a good idea to list them on a page which we can keep updated as we sort through the problems. You can find that page here.

Mumsnet is a very large, complicated and old site - we've been working on re-platforming for the best part of 3 years - so it's not a huge surprise there are some bugs but please be assured we are working our way through them will get to them all as soon as we possibly can. In the meantime I do apologise for any inconvenience and frustration - I know it's been a painful day and a half for some.

Thank you to all those who've fed back and are helping us solve the remaining issues - it's really much appreciated Flowers.

I can't see anything there about some of us not being able to see all the boards in the topics list.

For me I think it's all the boards I have hidden from active that aren't showing at all, which is not ideal as there are topics I choose to visit sometimes, but I just don't want them in active.

I'm using the app (iPhone). My active threads are full of zombie threads that I think people having the same issue are updating and bear no resemblance to the active threads on the website (I spotted this thread in active when I went to website to compare). I couldn't post at all yesterday until I logged out and back in again.

All watched threads were migrated over from the old site

Yeah, no, they weren't. Only 49 of mine were migrated. That was all. I have combed through and deleted some, in case more old ones popped up as they used to - but they didn't. (It's not something I want to have a discussion about, just reporting back.)

Thanks for the list, it's good to have it in one central place.

I hope lessons have been learned, although I suspect they haven't. The new platform was clearly in no way ready to be launched, there is no way some of those issues should have happened.

Given the support MN provides to posters with disabilities and parents of DC with disabilities and SEND it's disappointing that so many are reporting accessibility issues.

The active threads don't seem to be updating with many new threads, the same old ones are always there.

Bookmarking doesn't work. It allows you to bookmark a thread, but when you go back to it it takes you back to the beginning of the thread. The bookmark is still visible, but it doesn't take you to it.

My list of watched threads is shorter than it used to be. Some have disappeared that were definitely on there, and some have returned that I'd marked as 'unwatched'.

I'm wondering if they'll come back when the missing boards come back, or our connection to them anyway. All my watched threads are also missing from my watch list.

I can see all the boards if I'm not logged in, but obviously can't post even though I can see that others can.

If I log in, I can only see a very small selection of topics (Site Stuff and Special Needs). Just about everything else is missing.

If I open a thread in a topic not on my list, eg Chat and then log in, I get the 'oops the server is having a moment' message.

I keep getting notifications that a thread I’m on and watching in the Pregnancy board has been updated, but when I click the notification, it just takes me to the list of active threads. I can't actually access the Pregnancy board (and therefore the thread I'm on, which has disappeared from my watched list) at all!

Not sure if this is "known" but active is behaving oddly when you use the back button. I'm not sure if it's refreshing every time (it has done this before and then it was fixed, but it's harder to tell with the new layout) or doing something different but threads are disappearing and reappearing in a different place.

Browser based on Android. Bookmarks aren't fully operable - they work fine for the full text version but when I select "see all" for OP, and have deliberately bookmarked a post by OP it just takes me to the beginning of the thread instead.

My watched threads have not returned - I had over 50, going back years, and have been left with about 15.

In addition, many of the MN emojis are no longer there, e.g. the custom one made for The Archers board, and the easter bunny/santa/ versions [tbu...] and [f...]

That black screen saying I'm not allowed to post keeps popping up randomly (it happened while I was typing this)

Well that wasn't exactly a success was it?

“we’re looking into this” isn’t really a response either - and I dispute that it’s a small number of users with the pm issue I think it’s simply not loads of users have tried to pm yet!

We removed bump and reset which was clunky and organised the lists by most recently updated.

What exactly is wrong with having it as most recently updated? That’s a perfectly sensible way to organise things plus I think this decision is what led to the mn zombie apocalypse on active!

Lots of “we will add this back in” why were those things removed in the first place?

The staying logged in issue isn’t just to do with a box being ticked if it were then those of us that have ticked the box would stay logged in and we’re not always

We’ve changed the way the pages are laid out - to go to the last page you just need to click the highest number in the list

But why have you implemented this change it makes no sense with regard to how most use the site?

No reply to trending not updating properly which I think also contributed to the zombie apocalypse

Re app - I HAVE logged out and refreshed several times - still getting the same issues

And why is the faq not available to see on the app? Seems app users are not as valued to me

Yup. For those interested I'm using an iPhone. I deleted the app and reinstalled. Everything seems ok now.

They are saying they HAVE NOW organised the list by most recently updated - it wasn't worded too clearly. I have issues with it but they're on another thread Smile

I’m on an iPhone and have deleted and reinstalled the app, but still can't see lots of topics and have lost my 'Watched Threads'. Same problem if I try using the mobile site. I can access the pregnancy topic by googling it, but I then get an error message when I try to click on any of the threads in that topic!
