Mumsnet Talk re-platforming - Known issues update

JustineMumsnet · 21/04/2022 14:44

Hi all,
As you probably know we re-plaftormed the site overnight on Tuesday (in order to move to a faster, more stable and secure site which would be easier to develop new features on). There are a number of issues and bugs as a result of the move that we are working through and we thought it would be a good idea to list them on a page which we can keep updated as we sort through the problems. You can find that page here.

Mumsnet is a very large, complicated and old site - we've been working on re-platforming for the best part of 3 years - so it's not a huge surprise there are some bugs but please be assured we are working our way through them will get to them all as soon as we possibly can. In the meantime I do apologise for any inconvenience and frustration - I know it's been a painful day and a half for some.

Thank you to all those who've fed back and are helping us solve the remaining issues - it's really much appreciated Flowers.

@HebeMumsnet still no stickies for me - am on chrome - and weird gaps. I had a look on active on edge and the stickies are there and the gaps are the 'promoted by MN' threads.

That's weird. I am using Brave Browser which is based on Chrome. I see the Stickies but also the gaps where the "promoted by MN" threads would be.

Hello,

Do these threads load in after a few moments?
Can we check - are you using an ad blocker at all?

LilyMumsnet · 30/08/2022 16:45

Hi again!

Can we check - did you reject Mumsnet cookies? If so, then these threads will appear blank for you. If you have accepted and they are still appearing blank, do let us know.

bestbefore · 30/08/2022 17:21

@HebeMumsnet I can't remember when I last got a cookie message but and no I don't have an ad blocker

Ducksurprise · 30/08/2022 19:47

I'm now getting the fat black spaces as shown in picture 1.
But I had started getting skinny recommends in the middle of all the fat threads.

Is it possible to have all the threads as tiny as MN recommends, an opt in button for this threads?

Chrome, android, no ad blocker and accepted cookies.

Apologies of non of that make sense- I was badly multi tasking

LilyMumsnet · 30/08/2022 20:02

It makes sense - thanks so much for the extra information.
We're taking another look at this now!

Hi all

We'll chat about the feedback regarding posts per page, thanks so much for sharing it with us.

@PolkadotsAndMoonbeams can we check what device and browser you're using?

@LilyMumsnet
I like my 1000 posts page and have no difficulty on the ipad. Please don't remove this option.

EquallyDivided · 30/08/2022 21:54

@LilyMumsnet I don't want shorter threads either, I just want the option to flick from 50 posts/page to all posts on one page and back again, like we had before.

Brave Browser automatically blocks ads, so, Yes.

I always accept the Mumsnet cookies.

FigRollsAlly · 05/09/2022 16:48

All of a sudden I’ve started getting the cookie consent popping up every time I open a new page. It was fine this morning but has started happening this pm.

FigRollsAlly · 05/09/2022 16:49

And it popped up again straight after I posted before I’d even had time to navigate away to another page.

I’ve been telling them this since the starT. Blank spaces in threads, consent, pages reloading,..

Same here. Every single page. I accept the cookies every time but it pops up again on the next page. I’ve not changed any settings. I’ve tried it with and without VPN, in and out of the house (in case it was our main adblocker on the router).

FigRollsAlly · 11/09/2022 15:01

In the end, I found the Site stuff thread ‘Need your consent keeps coming up’ and followed the instructions on the first page and luckily it worked for me.

MangoBiscuit · 12/09/2022 10:12

Getting lots of duplicate threads again this morning.

HebeMumsnet · 12/09/2022 10:40

Morning everyone. Here's a link to the thread @FigRollsAlly mentioned www.mumsnet.com/talk/site_stuff/4629276-need-your-consent-keeps-coming-up. The instructions on there aren't working for everyone but they are definitely worth a go.

@MangoBiscuit Thanks for the heads up. We'll have a look now. If it's happening on any specific board or anything like that, do let us know.

Furries · 13/09/2022 00:02

Came on here to post re “consent” box constantly popping up. I’ve never had this before, tonight is the first time.

@HebeMumsnet - fyi, your link in the post above gives me an “oops, not available page”.

I will keep searching for an answer whilst clicking “Co sent” every bloody page 😂

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 18/09/2022 11:52

Is there any particular reason for yet another new format today, one without any aids to navigating the site at all, or is it just an effort to make sure people leave the site?

I mean, spiffy that the text/messages are now centred with bands of blue down each side; but finding, from the front page where I sign in, any thread I am not already watching or contributing to has been made into a major undertaking, one that is frankly too difficult for me to be bothered with. I can't feel that hiding or getting rid of all the available short cuts for finding where I want to go is a particularly useful wheeze.

I'd go and see whether there is any new thread about this, but finding it would be too much like looking for Dr Livingstone in the trackless jungle.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 19/09/2022 12:56

It seems to be back to normal today, with the actual thread to the left of the vast expanse of pale blue and the various useful things across the top of the thread so I can navigate the site.
