Mumsnet Talk re-platforming - Known issues update

Hi all,
As you probably know we re-plaftormed the site overnight on Tuesday (in order to move to a faster, more stable and secure site which would be easier to develop new features on). There are a number of issues and bugs as a result of the move that we are working through and we thought it would be a good idea to list them on a page which we can keep updated as we sort through the problems. You can find that page here.

Mumsnet is a very large, complicated and old site - we've been working on re-platforming for the best part of 3 years - so it's not a huge surprise there are some bugs but please be assured we are working our way through them will get to them all as soon as we possibly can. In the meantime I do apologise for any inconvenience and frustration - I know it's been a painful day and a half for some.

Thank you to all those who've fed back and are helping us solve the remaining issues - it's really much appreciated Flowers.

Hello @Slowgrowingelm and @Orcadianrythyms apologies if this has already been asked - but have you an ad blocker installed or have you rejected Cookies at any stage?

Thanks for all the additional info.

Slowgrowingelm · 23/07/2022 17:16

Hi, I don’t have an ad blocker, only if there’s something in built in to the iOS updates. However I have updated a second time and 🤞 I no longer seem to be having any issues. This is on my iPhone (12). I’ve been on the site without issues since the second update yesterday PM.

I’ve started page-freezing again. Just posted this on another thread but realised I should do it here. Page goes white as au scroll down (always past an ad, as far a i can tell). If I wait long enough some or all of the rest of the page becomes available but not all the time.

Everything is very, very slow, makes reading almost impossible.

iphone, web page (safari I guess), not the app. I’m up to date on iOS etc.

Found this very difficult to type as very slow

Yes!!! This is me daily!

Memyselfandfood · 24/07/2022 17:56

right now on this thread I’ve had a white page apart from a stupid barbie ad banner at the top!
no posts, and page moving really slowly, really hard to type as it’s slow!

Hello All, I've invited those of you who have previously got in touch to test our advanced search feature. If I've missed anyone, or anyone else is interested in testing it then let me know🙂

Hey @BertieBotts , Thanks for getting in touch and apologies for missing you! I'll send you an email within the next few minutes 😀

The ‘see next’ post button returns me back to the original OP’s post. It happens on any of the OPs posts, I just get sent back to the start. With no collection of £200…
Just started today. Not sure if this is a thing for anyone else? iPhone 12, on google/safari, not the app, I’m completely up to date on my iOS

Slowgrowingelm · 03/08/2022 10:33

Scrap that - just tried again and it’s working. Very odd. I spent several minutes experimenting before typing my last post!

HebeMumsnet · 03/08/2022 11:20

Good news @Slowgrowingelm . Thanks for letting us know. Just drop us a line again if you have any further problems.

AnneKipankitoo · 25/08/2022 21:54

It has happened to me again . It says I have posted too many posts recently.

Hi @AnneKipankitoo thanks for posting that screenshot - and sorry you were temporarily unable to post.

We have a spam prevention tool which kicks in if people post multiple times within a short space of time, just to stop the annoying spammers from posting multiple threads or posts.

Hopefully you can post again as normal by now, but please let us know if you have any more problems.

Ducksurprise · 26/08/2022 12:33

My bookmarks have stopped working again
Chrome on Android.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 26/08/2022 14:19

Do you know why some threads say "-x new" and others just say "x new"? Is it supposed to mean something?

Is there ANY chance you could reconsider on being able to flick from showing 50 posts a page to showing all posts? I used to use this a lot and it is really, really annoying to not be able to do it any more. I tried changing my default to show all posts, which allows me to search within a thread, but makes it really slow loading threads when on data or weak wifi so I had to change it back again.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/08/2022 18:22

You're not kidding about how slow it is. I've always used the setting to show the full thread, not in pages. I believe that option was removed some years ago for new users, but it was kept for the oldies, so I suppose they felt they had to keep it for the new platform. It makes it r-e-a-l-l-y slow even to type a response towards the end of a long thread, and every so often the thread just closes itself and we get the dreaded 'Aw Snap!' message.

I would actually have been perfectly happy if MN had used the change to the new platform to reduce the maximum thread length. How many people actually read to the end of a 1000-post thread? I am currently the person who starts the Archers threads, and we do more or less fill every thread, but it wouldn't be a huge deal to have shorter threads. If it meant a more reliable platform I'd be delighted.

EquallyDivided · 26/08/2022 18:32

I've had mine set to show 50 posts per page for many years now. I'm on about 5 long running series' of threads that do fill up, some fill in a week or two, some carry on all year. In both cases I sometimes want to search back for something someone said a while back either in the same thread or same series and it used to be really easy by changing to "show all posts" on the thread menu and searching via the browser search function and now it can only be done by going to settings to change it which is a lot more cumbersome.

LilyMumsnet · 26/08/2022 18:56

Hi all

We'll chat about the feedback regarding posts per page, thanks so much for sharing it with us.

@PolkadotsAndMoonbeams can we check what device and browser you're using?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 26/08/2022 19:05

Safari on an iPhone SE 2020. Hopefully you could see my pictures too? Smile

I'll also add to the chorus of please can we have "show all messages" back. I read on 25 per page normally — loads quickly, and helps to know when we're getting near the end of a Strictly thread, but I used to use "show all messages" to quickly search in the thread.

Dygger · 26/08/2022 20:20

Every time I open MN I get the 'cookies/ security' options. No matter which I choose — accept, manage, reject — the same window pops up time and time again each time I go to the next page or if I want to post or if I go go back to look at another thread. Very annoying.

Dygger · 26/08/2022 20:21

It just popped up again after I'd posted. You'll have to forgive me if I don't come back to see the response. I can't be bothered to keep fighting my way through.

We'll email you - we may be able to help sort that. Flowers

Helleofabore · 28/08/2022 09:46

Is there a reason that on safari if you are near the bottom of a page, you lose control of the copy function on your phone. So, if you are copying to use as a quote (rather than creating an endless quote nest) you end up with many posts above and have to edit the quote in notes to get the one long sentence you want to quote? Sometimes it will grab ads as well.

Doesn’t happen in chrome. Just safari it seems.
