Mumsnet Talk re-platforming - Known issues update

JustineMumsnet · 21/04/2022 14:44

Hi all,
As you probably know we re-plaftormed the site overnight on Tuesday (in order to move to a faster, more stable and secure site which would be easier to develop new features on). There are a number of issues and bugs as a result of the move that we are working through and we thought it would be a good idea to list them on a page which we can keep updated as we sort through the problems. You can find that page here.

Mumsnet is a very large, complicated and old site - we've been working on re-platforming for the best part of 3 years - so it's not a huge surprise there are some bugs but please be assured we are working our way through them will get to them all as soon as we possibly can. In the meantime I do apologise for any inconvenience and frustration - I know it's been a painful day and a half for some.

Thank you to all those who've fed back and are helping us solve the remaining issues - it's really much appreciated Flowers.

On iPhone app and bookmark not working though I now have my watches topics back after re installing the app.

Graphista · 21/04/2022 16:14

@HellyR this is the problem with not having a way to communicate with all users on both types so that we can see updates properly

I've just tried using the site on iPhone and admittedly I usually use app but the site is slow, unresponsive, glitchy and pretty unusable!

Not the result you were planning mnhq

Peppapigforlife · 21/04/2022 16:16

It's very slow. Even typing this is appearing slow.

Bowednotbroken · 21/04/2022 16:18

I've logged off and on again and some of my watched threads have re-appeared, but not all.

cloudberry · 21/04/2022 16:23

I’m having difficulties accessing much at all if I’m logged in. I didn’t expect to be able to access this thread. I’ve tried random ones and all I get is the ‘Apologies’ window. I mainly use my iPhone and have cleared all cookies. Not a huge Mumsnet user, currently really following one thread but have be a MN member for 18 years so seems a shame to only be able to use not logged in …

cloudberry · 21/04/2022 16:25

So to go back to the thread I’m reading which is a very fast-moving one, I shall have to log out otherwise I can’t see it which is ridiculous 🙄

cloudberry · 21/04/2022 16:26

And now I can’t access Notifications either 😐

Neverreturntoathread · 21/04/2022 16:30

Hi @SueMumsnet great idea for a thread. So I’m on an iphone 13 and what’s happening is every 5 minutes (or if I’m inactive) then my screen freezes and won’t do anything unless I refresh the page. At which point I either get told I need to login (when I already was logged in) or more often get the pop up asking if I accept all cookies or want to manage consent. Must have seen that pop up and accepted cookies 30 times today!

good luck with the upgrade.

nearlyspringyay · 21/04/2022 16:31

Well you've squashed all the emojis so they look even older than they did before, I can't different my posts on the app, when I'm on the internet not logged in I can see ops posts highlighted, when I log in I can't

Hope MN is berating whoever they paid.

PartyGoose · 21/04/2022 16:33

Search just...doesn't work! Nothing happens when I try and search, and then sometimes it tells me there are no results Hmm

NevermindNelson · 21/04/2022 16:43

Premium issues haven’t been sorted. I’ve cleared all cookies and logged back in and I’m still seeing the ‘join Premium’ message.

RedToothBrush · 21/04/2022 16:47

Are there no plans to fix the issue with the @ symbol? At the moment you can't post a twitter handle without it causing problem.

I detailed the problem on the thread that its automatically making every use of it into an alert as if its a MN user and rather than a twitter handle and this causing problems as it just returns the message 'no known user' as an error message.

ChessieFL · 21/04/2022 16:55

I’m on premium and while I can’t see an ad, what I do have is a grey box at the top of the screen that says Advertisement. This takes up quite a bit of my phone screen and it’s annoying. Please can this be removed?

ChessieFL · 21/04/2022 16:58

Oh and despite ticking the ‘keep me logged in’ box, I still have to log in whenever I come back to the site after a bit of a gap.

Geamhradh · 21/04/2022 17:01

There are brand new threads with only one post (the OP) because if you try and reply, it tells you the thread is closed (at the bottom of the OP in red script) and suggests you start a new thread instead. (The example I tried to post an answer on is: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/other_subjects/4533023-hamper-to-italy
And this is under the OP (18/4/22)
"This thread is closed and is no longer accepting replies. Click here to start a new thread."

JurasicPerks · 21/04/2022 17:09

Are you considering the comments about the dates reading today/yesterday and older than that being in dd/mm/yyyy format being much easier to work out how recent stuff is?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 21/04/2022 17:20

@JustineMumsnet

You give as an answer to "I’m missing some of my Watched Threads"
All watched threads were migrated over from the old site - if you’re not seeing yours it would be useful to have more information and we can investigate further.

I had a full page plus about fifteen of watched threads, of which I would delete some from that list about once a week in order to keep the number down. Any thread I posted onto was automatically added, as far as I could tell, so I had to do that. The adding is useful, though.

Now I have 13 "I'm watching" (it was 10 earlier, but I have since posted to 3 new ones), and one or two that I was watching are now in "I'm on". I have tried clicking on "Watch this thread" for one of the ones in "I'm on", to no effect: it is not put into "I'm watching".

I also had about four "I started" threads, but only one has survived the move, plus there is one in there which I have no memory of having started and which has anyway been deleted on the grounds that it was a spoiler.

Oh, and please can we have back the handy explanations beside the Mumsnet Special Emojis? If we don't, nobody new to the site is ever going to discover what they mean, if they even find them hidden away behind all the boring ones every site has on it (could that be reversed so the Mumsnet ones are in front?) And were there really only 22 of them? I swear I remember one that was specially for The Archers threads, which was fun.

NanTheWiser · 21/04/2022 17:26

I would really like to see the username, first and last date of posting, as it used to be. Prevents posting on zombie threads apart from anything else.

SenecaFallsRedux · 21/04/2022 17:27

Please bring back the full functionality of Advanced Search.

user1481837070 · 21/04/2022 17:37

When I select a thread from ‘active’ and after reading the post want to go back to ‘active’, it isn’t the same ‘active’ list from before - it’s been updated in the few seconds I moved off it. I quite often see something I want to read but now can’t go back and find them again.

toastofthetown · 21/04/2022 17:43

Firstly, thanks for that list. Very useful!

Is there a place where we can submit minor feedback, not game breakers, but just small feedback?

In the footer, there used to be links to AIBU, Chat, Active and maybe Watching. Can't remember exactly, but it was useful to have those accessible when you get to the bottom of the page.

For Watching, it's great that you can change your view of the page, but I think that it would be really useful if you could save your view as a preference, as if you prefer to view it one way, you might like it like that every time you access the page. I'm Watching is a page where people tend to flit in and out of and so having to change views each time is a bit of a PITA.

Is there a way to sort it so viewing inserted images on a desktop can be zoomed in to? They still appear as tiny thumbnails

Sorry, just read the page and think this one is being dealt with, thanks.

magimedi · 21/04/2022 17:53

If I am logged in I keep getting the server down, error 500 message when I try to post on threads I am already on.

All my watched threads bar 2 have vanished.

Chrome on tablet and have updated chrome.

This is about the 4th time I have posted this message.

Would you consider going back to the old platform until you have sorted this one out?
