My phone is on silent, I'm scrolling through MN and twice now (last night and today) music blares out saying 'there's a dog in the house' no video and no way on page to stop it. Plus it is overriding my phone as everything is on silent. What is it @MNHQ ? Using browser on Android phone

Just happened to me again on energy price thread. Music started before I'd scrolled down to the ad, same black screen as pp. Phone on silent. Can you remove the ad please?

That bloody ad, the one with Amy and her omelette, has always been trouble. The one with 'early weaning recipes' in the same ad block.

These ads are annoying, intrusive, eat up data, and appear to be in some way connected to intrusive music blaring out. I've even had it on my kindle, though at least with that the volume control works.

How is this particular ad block able to by-pass the 'volume off' function of posters' phones?!

CaurnieBred · 23/09/2021 07:17

This has just happened to me too. Chrome browser on Android, just scrolling down, minding my own business and this song started blaring out!

That's what I want to know, and why it is still happening. I first notified MN on 9/9 and yet if anything it is getting worse.

There are lots of situations where I need my phone on silent.

Hi - just dropping in to say thanks for the extra information and screenshots which are really useful.

We're looking into this now. Flowers

CoralBells · 23/09/2021 11:42

I'm getting this too although I've turned the sound off on my phone to make it stop. Weird

Oldandcobwebbed · 24/09/2021 05:22

I've had this a few times, including just now
Phone on silent, all settings to silent (eg my media volume is also off.

Makes it unusable at night for me now

harriethoyle · 24/09/2021 07:54

Yes, I has this at 6am this morning. My DH wasn't very impressed Blush

ZenNudist · 24/09/2021 07:59

I'm having the same problem. A few times this week. Last night was a bell tolling. Scared the life out of my kids, woke ds2 up. Its overriding having my phone on silent/ vibrate. I turn the volume down but it comes back elsewhere on the site.

Whinge · 24/09/2021 08:01

I've also been experiencing this, and i'd really like to know how it's able to override my phone being on silent. Confused

SpindleWorld · 24/09/2021 12:01

Is anyone on the app and getting this intrusive ad noise? Does it still happen if you turn the app notification sound to 'off'?

I'm only accessing MN on a kindle now, as I can turn all the sound of successfully on that and not suddenly blast out music in the early hours.

Nearlyme · 24/09/2021 14:19

Holy fuck MN, the dog has gone and now I'm getting a lecture from Ben Foggle When My Phone Is On SILENT.

And I thought the dog was bad...

Spindle I didn't know it was happening on the app as well!

Come on @MNHQ @lilymumsnet @soniamumsnet

This has happened to me twice in two days. I think I was on the energy thread, volume was muted so how the hell is my phone suddenly blasting out 'there's a dog in my house'?

Suffice to say, the cat is not impressed.

middleager · 24/09/2021 14:56

I'm on Android, Chrome, main site (not app).

Russell19 · 25/09/2021 08:25

Dog in the house just happened to me, was totally freaked out

DanglingMod · 26/09/2021 09:05

Just had it too.

Beggin' You blasting out on my phone (on the A&E/111 thread). Android, chrome. Not on app. Phone on silent but a whole song blasting out with no way to stop it.

Very bloody annoying. Must be about time to come off MN?

Catawaul · 26/09/2021 12:01

I just had a climate change one start up. Phone on silent.
There must be a fault where the ad comes up as a black screen, as I've scrolled past loads of ads with the picture in (including the dog in the house) and they haven't played out loud.

FlibbertyGiblets · 26/09/2021 14:48

Oh jeez now I have had it. My mobile (android) is set to silent for a reason.

How is it possible for MN to override my personal settings?

Android, using the mobile site, Google browser.

Please sort it, HQ, it has really upset me today. Don't make me say why I need to have device on silent Sad.

Whinge · 26/09/2021 16:05

OP reported this on the 9th September and it seems as though the problem is affecting more users and is a more frequent occurrence. Yet MN are still tinkering away in the background rather than fixing the problem. Hmm

Nearlyme · 27/09/2021 02:47

I don't know why I'm bothering as you evidently don't give a shit that this keeps happening but I'm now getting people talking about bees.
It's 2.45am funnily enough I need my phone to be on silent.
Unlike pp I had a advert with a video showing when the audio cut in, but the audio isn't linked to the advert.

The dog just woke up my house too. Mumsnet can you catch that dog and put it down please?

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 27/09/2021 08:16

Yep I've had this via chrome browser too.
Together with the over sensitive ginormous ski holiday ads that I'm never going to go on, its breaking me of my distracting time wasting MN habit which is a plus I suppose! Nothing like making a website really annoying & intrusive to use to drive down visits.
