Congratulations on killing feminism

Congratulations mumsnet towers, you are successfully ruining the Feminist ethos of mumsnet.
By segregating feminism with your awful sex and gender topic, you have made it much easier to target.

All the obnoxious MRA's don't have to hunt around they head straight there. It's putting me off and that's what they want. To silence us pesky women and mumsnet you've made it simple for them!

Link to the Milli Hill thread in case anyone wants to make up their own mind about it

Seconded

Not a frequent poster but I was a frequent lurker. Sadly I prefer Twitter these days for keeping up with the news and what’s going on. The discussion feels freer and less fraught there and you don’t have to defend the absolute basics on every single thread. Hats off to those who are persisting with it here, but I couldn’t do it. Not going to waste my time going over and over and over the same straw man arguments and disingenuous ‘questions’.

ichundich · 14/07/2021 12:56

I don't see the issue. Those who actually want to read and participate in sex and gender discussions know where to find them 🤷‍♀️.

Branleuse · 14/07/2021 13:54

@DancesWithTortoises

Agreed. Very disappointing. The default position on a site primarily for women should be pro-woman.

MN are gutless. Utterly gutless.

I honestly cant believe you think that since its been pretty much the only public place this can be discussed and MN have tried really hard to find a balance and not get taken down. Youve seen how the site has been targetted.
Needapoodle · 14/07/2021 13:56

You could start your own forum if you don't like this one. But you won't, because that requires effort.

BoreOfWhabylon · 14/07/2021 15:56

Well said Branleuse. I'm as GC as they come and I don't always agree with MNHQ decisions, but I do think they do their utmost, at no small cost, to allow these discussions to continue. There's absolutely no need for the rudeness toward MNHQ that some posters exhibit.

Just don't respond to the derailers /gady screenshotters, report them and carry on.

Hear hear OP

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 14/07/2021 16:04

@Viviennemary

I think it was a good idea to separate them. The topic of feminism was entirrly taken over by trans issues.
How can you discuss feminist issues if you aren’t allowed to acknowledge what a female is?
OldTurtleNewShell · 14/07/2021 16:27

I don't think it was a good idea to separate them. If it's not related to sex or gender, how is it feminist? It seemed a bit pointless.
I wasn't expecting it to turn into as much into troll central as it has though. Its particularly bad overnight.
Genuine debate and disagreement, I'd be more than happy to have but it's just goady thread after thread where the OP's main purpose seems to be coming in purely to fill up the board with threads admonishing the big bad women.
I do think MN needs to be a lot stricter and give them the boot. They clearly have no intent of playing nicely. It's just denunciation, accusations and figure wagging.

OldTurtleNewShell · 14/07/2021 16:27

Lol *finger wagging. I imagine figure wagging is something else entirely.

donquixotedelamancha · 14/07/2021 16:43

I agree, I think the tone and community of the feminism boards has been really damaged by this decision.

It would be nice to get a reply from MNHQ.

ProfessorSillyStuff · 14/07/2021 16:46

I think some tra must have infiltrated mnhq. It's so disappointing to watch. But in general, every thread that deviates from the typical trivial predictable shallow rubbish, gets deleted, as soon as it gets interesting. I can barely be arsed to use mumsnet anymore because of it.

HavelockVetinari · 14/07/2021 16:48

@Shirleyphallus

I think MNHQ actually stick their neck on the line a lot to enable us to have these important conversations and the criticism isn’t really justified

They’ve lost sponsors as a result of allowing some of the conversation and debate to stand. I think they tread a fine and difficult line on this and do it well

This. It's one of the vanishingly few places we can speak about this important issue without being shut down and being screamed at that we're transphobic witches.
FlibbertyGiblets · 14/07/2021 16:55

It gives me quiet pleasure to think that we are the daughters of the witches they failed to burn.Smile

FelicityBeedle · 14/07/2021 16:57

If you’re so unhappy why don’t you move site? Every time I try and defend trans rights on here I get told to. Why don’t you try it?

Albgo · 14/07/2021 17:08

Agree with OP

yeOldeTrout · 14/07/2021 17:17

don't mind as long as I can hide the topic easily whatever it's called

PuffItsGone · 14/07/2021 17:19

Agreed. It is a very distressing state of affairs.

Also, I’d like to add that I think the effect is spilling over onto other boards, partic Relationships and AIBU. The number of threads I’ve seen recently which are swamped by absolute nonsense responses within the first few posts has soared recently. It really does feel like a concerted effort to disrupt an important source of support for women in distress or emotional need. I don’t know if MNHQ has noticed this but it goes beyond ‘just report’ on any individual thread. It’s becoming a systemic ‘tone’ on the boards which is turning this place into a bearpit.

Enough4me · 14/07/2021 21:01

There are the posters who jump on to claim TW are all victims missing rights, but then fail answer what rights are missing. However, I read so many posts from articulate, funny and intelligent women that these troll posts are a minority.

I also see GC feminists jumping on threads that have nothing to do with trans rights asking ‘but what if it’s a trans woman, they’ve got dicks!’ In an awful goady manner, isn’t that trolling?

AssassinatedBeauty · 14/07/2021 21:16

Report it if you see it, @FelicityBeedle. If it's trolling then it will be removed. No point complaining about it if you don't avail yourself of the methods to remove it.
