Why is the search on mumsnet so crap?

I've put those exact words in and just random stuff comes up. Has happened loads, seems to ignore the obvious!

Just use Google. In the search bar type this

site:mumsnet.com followed by your search term

It really is awful, it's such a disappointment.

I know which thread you mean OP. I also know what you mean about the new search facility, no idea what's happened to it but it's not like it used to be.

I'll try on google from now on. You really wouldn't think it was difficult, no wonder you why so many zombie threads when they bring up stories from 4 years ago rather than one from an hour ago!

Yeah I’m also surprised it’s so very bad. There was an effort to fix it awhile ago snd it basically did no improvements. I can’t quite understand why it’s so hard to fix, it should be really basic.

I just go on google and type 'mumsnet name of thread'

Yep agree - I often try searching various terms and it returns ridiculous results. Search function is a basic thing to get right.

Thank fuck for this thread. I’ve been on MN for over 7 years and am a bit crap with technology and I thought it was just me being me.

We should start a campaign

They know all about it but do nothing.

I also use Google when I want to search for something on MN. I just type into Google "Mumsnet (whatever I want to search)" and get much better results than if I try to use the MN search.

I also use Google rather than searching on the site. It's not usable, even if you put the exact words in.

It is OP, and it's been mentioned time and time again on here. When it's pointed out to @mnhq they say they will look into it.

But nothing ever happens/changes.

I agree - the search function is not very good.

It just doesn’t work properly at all, I use google instead.

Tick the search thread titles only box.

You search something that you know you’ve written in that day, but ever else comes up at the top, from days before. Madness.
And when will you give us a like button ?

To be fair it's not just Mumsnet. Several sites I use have equally bad search engines and it's quicker to use the Google trick.

I find the app in general absolutely awful.

I use the mobile site, and I've just done your search in there
