MN pleeeeease consider CLOSING OLD THREADS...

...and only reopen if the OP requests it.

Posters are exhuming threads from ages ago and asking for updates, posting advice, etc. The recent one was from 2012!

I often look at dates now because I've been sucked into zombie threads many times in the past but sometimes I forget, especially if the thread hasn't got too many replies.

Can MN close zombie threads from say a year? There's nothing more to be said - let it go [in Elsa's voice].

I'm on the "lock all old threads" bench. Nothing more annoying than reading pages of a thread to then realise it's years old and no longer relevant.

@LiliesAndChocolate

It doesn’t really matter. Each forum is different. On some you can follow a member, upgrade or even downgrade a comment, and so many features. Some don’t like the fact that discussions are not close, some love it and appreciate the feature. C’est la vie.
Exactly. I can't understand the contingent on this thread who are angrily demanding MN close old threads.

Some want that; some don't. Like most features. You can't really get cross (and in some cases, rude) because your particular choice isn't supported.

BIWI · 20/07/2021 14:27

No @EarringsandLipstick. What's rude now, actually, is that @MNHQ aren't responding on a thread which is specifically set up to discuss site stuff

That's why there's the frustration.

Hi all, and thanks for your feedback.
We recognise that zombie threads can be quite an annoyance and that we could do more to flag them (or close/archive them) to improve the user experience. It's something that's on the plan (yes, we have a plan - a major upgrade plan).

Some of you will have noticed that we upgraded the content pages this week (including the MN homepage) and the next major project is the Talk boards.
Zombie threads are very much on the radar and we'll bear in mind all of your feedback so far.

We don't have a single solution at the moment - but if you report any obvious zombie threads when they're reanimated we can take a look and close them if required.

Thanks for bearing with us so far and please do bear with us a little longer.

Thank you @MichaelMumsnet.

Exactly! Get a grip. Ignore or report zombie threads it is not the drama some bossy boots on here are making it out to be 🙄.
