Has this changed or did I dream it used to be like this?

On the Active Conversations page, didn’t it used to say who the last poster was?

It was really useful - meant you could see on a busy thread if anyone new had posted without having to click into it first.

Unless I’ve lost the plot...

roguetomato · 17/05/2021 19:31

Yes it did. And now I've just checked it and it doesn't. Maybe a glitch?

MuttsNutts · 17/05/2021 19:43

Thank you...I thought I was going mad.

Please bring it back MN. Now that it’s not there I realise how useful it was.

DramaAlpaca · 17/05/2021 22:38

Yes it's changed very recently. I came here looking for a thread about it. It's annoying.

I'm wondering if it's become a Premium feature now?

Hopefully not and it's a glitch.

GreyhoundG1rl · 17/05/2021 22:41

It's not a glitch. There's a previous thread in Site Stuff where they confirmed it's to put the desktop version in line with the mobile version (or something).
MNHQ appeared to think it was a positive change, despite being told people didn't like it 🤷🏻‍♀️

gamerchick · 17/05/2021 22:44

I've not a clue what you're all on about. Shows how observant I am Grin

Hawkins001 · 17/05/2021 22:45

At one time on threads you could click and see the entire thread rather than just 100 at a time, would this feature be brought back ?

DramaAlpaca · 17/05/2021 22:52

Thanks @GreyhoundG1rl just read the other thread.

GreyhoundG1rl · 17/05/2021 22:58

You could be right... They were keen to insist it's a good thing, despite being told that from a user point of view it really isn't!

Snooks1971 · 17/05/2021 23:02

I noticed this a couple of days ago. It’s not a good change!

MuttsNutts · 18/05/2021 06:09

Definitely not a good change!

OP posts:
BIWI · 18/05/2021 13:52

AFAIK it's not a premium thing. It's very annoying though - feels like the desktop site is being dumbed down so that it matches the layout/look of the app.

SoMuchToBits · 18/05/2021 15:35

I was just noticing this today. Extremely annoying! If they want the two versions to match, then surely better to add the feature to the app.

ShowOfHands · 18/05/2021 15:37

I can see the whole thread and always have been able to. Have you checked your settings?
ShowOfHands · 18/05/2021 15:39

I've never been able to see anything about the last poster in active convos either but I don't use the desktop version so can't miss what I've never had. I think I'd just find it extraneous clutter tbh.

GreyhoundG1rl · 18/05/2021 15:40

It's different for newer posters, I think. Anyone deleting their accounts post Jeffreygate were stiffed a bit on reregistering, for some reason.
I never got my original settings back.

Seeline · 18/05/2021 15:45

I've just realised today that it's gone. Really miss it -found it really useful ☹️

soniamumsnet · 18/05/2021 15:51

Hi @MuttsNutts @Seeline just dropping in to throw some light on your query. Things are looking slightly different on Active because we're cleaning up the interface and making things more consistent across mobile and desktop sites in preparation for re-platforming. On Active, we've removed the last updated column.

You can read more about why we're re-platforming on this thread from Justine: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/4235727-Please-help-us-to-improve-Mumsnet-join-the-Mumsnet-Talk-Testing-Panel

As always, we really value your feedback on any changes - good and bad - so please let us know. We're trying to make things consistent across mobile/desktop - but we'll pass your comments on to the tech team. Flowers

BIWI · 19/05/2021 08:56

But why take things that are valued away from the desktop site, rather than add things to the mobile site?

And ...

... why do the interfaces have to look consistent? They're always going to have different needs because of the space on screen that's available!

Seeline · 19/05/2021 09:08

I agree BIWI. I found it really useful!

If they are really worried about equality, how about making the Android App work as well as the IOS version!

soniamumsnet · 19/05/2021 11:19

Hi @Seeline @BIWI Just dropping in to say we're aiming for more consistency across desktop and mobile so that users who switch between the two have a more seamless experience. It also helps us maintain the website more efficiently when there is less variation in code.

We are taking your feedback on board.

Please join the Talk Transformation Testing Panel here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/4235727-Please-help-us-to-improve-Mumsnet-join-the-Mumsnet-Talk-Testing-Panel as this is exactly the kind of feedback we will be looking for.

BelleBlueBell · 19/05/2021 11:23

I think I posted on last week's thread about this, I still don't like it. It makes the order look nonsensical when the only date you can see is when the thread was started

I don't get the point about it being the same as the mobile version as when I use the mobile site (android) it doesn't show any dates

MuttsNutts · 19/05/2021 19:09

The mobile and desktop sites are very different whether you like it or not and have different audiences. I very rarely use the app because text can’t be enlarged like it can on the desktop which I use on my iPad.

It may be simplest for you to just do the same on both but if there is a feature that is liked and obviously possible on one and not the other why wouldn’t you try to keep as many of your users happy as you can?

OP posts:
GreyhoundG1rl · 19/05/2021 19:13

Why is so important to cater for posters switching between desktop and mobile? They have to be a very small minority, surely?

JustineMumsnet · 24/05/2021 16:19

Thanks for the feedback - we're trying to clean things up a bit ahead of our re-platforming but we take the point that some found this information useful to be able to tell if the thread has been updated since they last viewed it. To be honest there are probably better (UX-wise) ways of signifying that than putting in date, time and latest poster details which would be useful for mobile users too, so we'll give that a bit of thought and get back to you.

FinallyFluid · 24/05/2021 16:22

Noticed this, this morning, glad I am not going slowly locked down bonkers.... Grin
