Confused.

Hi @Seeline thanks for flagging this. Can we just check which version of the android app you're using please? Is it the latest one? Flowers

TimMumsnet · 28/01/2021 10:20

Hey, sorry about this! I think I likely broke it. We were doing some work on other bits of the app, and may have broken the bookmark feature. I'm looking into it now, so will hopefully have it fixed soon.

Thanks for mentioning it, I'll let you know when I have something ready to go.

I assume it's the latest - it seems to have changed overnight! I now appear to have the ability to quote posts which I didn't before. And some of the posts have weird blue lines down the side (I assume that they are quotes?) .

Perhaps I'll finally be able to post photos on the app and vote in the AIBU polls - that would be useful

soniamumsnet · 28/01/2021 11:53

Thanks @Seeline. We're investigating now. Flowers

mummabubs · 28/01/2021 16:39

Really hope this is fixed. I'm on android too and it was buggy as heck before. Then after the update this morning I was excited as for the first time in 2 years it looked like I could create a new thread (this has never worked on the android app for as long as I've used it)... Then I noticed bookmarking doesn't work anymore and trying to start a new thread has gone back to not working too 🤦🏻‍♀️ I don't understand how the android app can consistently be so poor in comparison to the apple version (which I was using before getting a different phone)

mummabubs · 29/01/2021 09:16

Just tried to use the new quote function from the android app for the first time and that hasn't worked either (!) 🤦🏻‍♀️

Seeline · 29/01/2021 09:23

The thing that annoys me with the Android app more than anything else is the inability to be able to attach photos. I know the links/buttons are there to do it. I can even attach the photos to the post. But when the post appears, the photos have disappeared.

And yes mummabubs, it is as buggy as heck!!

soniamumsnet · 29/01/2021 16:28

Hi @Seeline thanks for these reports and sorry it's been a pain. We're ironing out bugs right now, so thanks for being patient. Flowers

Scoobygang7 · 31/01/2021 08:07

Any idea on timescale for the fix as it's still the same?

Ch3rish · 31/01/2021 08:20
@MoleSmokes I don't believe the post is supposed to change colour. Is that how this feature has behaved for you in the past?
My bookmarks are working ok but they have always changed colour and still do both on lattop/Firefox and android phone which is a problem if they aren't meant to Smile

gillyweed · 01/02/2021 12:46

Yep none of my bookmarks are working. Just takes me to the start of the thread, I can see small blue bookmarks but they're not actually working. Android through the app.

We're just trying to get an update for you, Scoobygang7 - will be back with any news as soon as possible.

Thanks for bearing with us!

TimMumsnet · 02/02/2021 09:14

Hey @Scoobygang7 and @Biscuits101 - there is a bug in the Android app (separate to the other bookmarking issues) which I'm currently working on. Hopefully we'll have a fix for you soon!

In the meantime, thanks for your patience Smile

Seeline · 02/02/2021 09:22

Soon as possible please. It is unusable at the moment!! Can't keep scrolling through hundreds of posts to check a thread. The flip thread has never worked for me so that's no help either.

Scoobygang7 · 02/02/2021 16:23

@TimMumsnet How about a full overhaul of the android app. If I am honest the naff up with the bookmarking issue, the android app is terrible.
 • if not just reading active threads, all threads within sub groups are just a repeat of the first 8-10 posts.
 • can't post photos via the app. I write a post add a photo press post it says successful but it hasn't posted. If I want to write a post with a photo I have to use the mobile site via my browser. Which in my view negates the point of having the app.
 • IPhone app if you are replying to a post if you @ someone it brings a list of possible tags of those that have posted. Android app does not do this I have to remember who I am replying to and try to remember if there's capitals or any other special characters in the name.
mummabubs · 02/02/2021 20:54

I agree with everything @Scoobygang7 says, plus I've never been able to start a new thread on the android app. I don't pretend that I'd have tje faintest idea of how to fix any of it but there's just such a stark contrast in functioning between the android app and the apple app, which I don't understand. 😞 I said to my husband when I bought my huawei phone a couple of years ago, all the other apps on my phone work just as well as they did on my iPhone apart from this one!

Biscuits101 · 02/02/2021 23:42

Thanks @TimMumsnet

Seeline · 03/02/2021 09:43

Another one agreeing with @Scoobygang7. Why is the Android app so poor compared with the apple one?

Another thing that annoys me - when the bookmarking feature does work, you can't see the earlier parts of the thread if you want to check something. the SHow earlier Posts thing doesn't work - it just gets really confused and you end up going in an endless loop.

Butterymuffin · 03/02/2021 09:47

This is why I still access on my phone's browser and not the Android app. Decided it wasn't for me.

jellybeans44 · 03/02/2021 18:32

Since the new update for the app I've now lost all my bookmarks on threads I've been watching. Every time I go into the thread it's back to the start despite bookmarking it. Very very annoying for threads I've been following for a while, especially if there's been a few updates from the OP since then. I need to "flip" it and then keep scrolling to the most recent update I've missed and scroll back up from there. Will this be sorted anytime soon?

quittingdaily · 03/02/2021 21:42

Any news on a fix yet?

TimMumsnet · 04/02/2021 10:15

Hey guys, thanks for your patience - quick update on the Android app bugs.

I've mostly fixed bookmarking. After some previous changes, I needed to rebuild the way it loads, which is why it's taken a little longer to fix, apologies! I'm now just cleaning up some other bugs it's caused, then I'll make another release and let you know.

Your general feedback is really helpful! We unfortunately have to prioritise work on other areas of Talk that need attention, but where there is time, I'm looking at the Android app. It's quite challenging to make fixes because it's an old app, so when you fix one bug, you cause another 3 bugs. As I've nicely demonstrated. 🤦🏼

Scoobygang7 · 05/02/2021 08:15

@TimMumsnet thank you for the update.

TimMumsnet · 05/02/2021 10:29

Hi guys, we've had some progress with the Android iOS app bookmark fix. I have a pre-release version that can be downloaded by going to this link:
play.google.com/apps/testing/com.mumsnet.talk

Would anyone with an Android device like to try it out? Your feedback helps us catch bugs before we release to everyone else.

I am happy to test it for you @TimMumsnet. I've clicked the link and apparently signed up but wasn't clear on what to do next.
