ermm Tech - re Halloween smilies........

TheQueenOfQuotes · 25/10/2007 18:10

now I don't want to start a mass debate about Halloween.........but I'd just like to say that I don't like being forced to use Halloween smilies when I don't celebrate it.

I really don't want to have to not use them until they're gone (seems to be the only one without ........) is there any way you can have "normal" smilies for those that don't wish to use the "seasonal" ones.......and the current ones for those that do???

Christianity borrowed almost everything it's got from paganism. It was a cute way of converting the natives.

Even Christmas comes from the Roman festival of Saturnalia.

So when it comes to any kind of festival, I say bring it on!

We need something for February. Such a dull month ...

harpsicorpsecarrier · 25/10/2007 20:19

you do know it isn't an actual witch don't you
you know the next they will be saying Christians don't have a sense of humour or something

These are up now. Instructions in usual spot - you need to put an f in front of the usual shortcut for the "festive" version. Bah, humbug I say Xmas Wink

TheQueenOfQuotes · 25/10/2007 20:24

as I said at the start of the thread I have no desire to get into a debate about Halloween - I've participated in the last 3/4yrs worth of them and they all turn out the same - with us all agreeing to disagree.

HOWEVER, I don't feel that it's fair that those of us who choose NOT to celebrate Halloween have to make a choice between no smilies, or using ones that we feel are inapproriate.

If you want to use them - fine go right ahead - but I don't want to (but I would still like to be able to use smilies)

Blummin Christians, no sense of humour.

I agree there should be an option to use or not, like at Christmas, but I think to leave MN for the duration is a bit of an extreme reaction.

Plenty of people asked for Halloween emoticons, so MNHQ asked me to draw them. A hat was the easiest option when you only have limited pixels to play with. Real witches don't wear the bloody hats ok!

tiredemma · 25/10/2007 20:26

er- my smilies dont appear to be halloween smilies. Whats going on?

TheQueenOfQuotes · 25/10/2007 20:28

why is an extreme reaction?? I feel I can't really post properly - can't even take part in debates as the winks and smiles and grins go a long way into showing emotions and sarcasm etc and without being able to use them I'm just going to have to explain every post!

I have no problem with all you witches wink (who I know don't really wear pointy hats but that's not the point) using them if you wish but I don't see why I shouldn't have a choice to use them or not use smilies at all.

OP posts:
Racers · 25/10/2007 20:31

You can still use the old fashioned smilies

:-)
:-p
:-(
:-0
;-)

etc., not as expressive but might help you get your point across?

demonaid · 25/10/2007 20:34

Also etc. But I do think that smile vs. fsmile vs. hsmile is a better way to go.

SatanGeorge · 25/10/2007 20:34

IT'S A POINTY BLACK HAT!

Chill out.

Gee, you might just force me to mention that it is, after all, a Christian festival. Only, I wouldn't do that.

Oops

TheQueenOfQuotes · 25/10/2007 20:35

haha you honestly think that people would notice them on the end of stuff when they're used to either reading "as said" or looking a bright yellow (or green or red or blue) face at the end?? ;-) It's not really the same is it?

OP posts:
ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 25/10/2007 20:36

You could have turned them into pumpkins [snigger].Mind you, I still wouldn't want to use them. For no reason other than I don't.Didn't want to use the Christmas ones either, apart from my own [bahhumbug] one.

SatanGeorge · 25/10/2007 20:37

I tried making pumpkins. Waaaay too hard. You can't get enough detail in.

Tech · 25/10/2007 20:38

You know what, i'd totally forgotten we did that for christmas (fwink, fsmile etc for Christmas versions). We'll do the same for these then. I'll put something up overnight to do it......

Las brujas Rachel and Justine are going to think I is big fat liar now as I said earlier we couldn't do this. I can't believe how completely I'd forgotten. scratches head. wanders off..

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 25/10/2007 20:38

I don't see why you're getting so het up, StG. QoQ has a very valid reason not to want to use them and the fact is that there was a choice of plain or festive at Christmas so there's no reason not to have that now..

Tech · 25/10/2007 20:38

oh no, got my own strikeout trick wrong. is bad day innit. must be the full moon.

SatanGeorge · 25/10/2007 20:39

There ya go then.

Everyone happy.

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 25/10/2007 20:39

Orange with a green stalk on top. That's it.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 25/10/2007 20:40

Thank you Tech

And now I will withdraw from any discussion on Halloween (or I could just find the last 3yrs worth in the archives and bump them and people can just read, realise they still feel the same way - either pro, anti or not bothered and not have to bother doing all their links to other sites again LOL).

OP posts:
Racers · 25/10/2007 20:40

Well I think they would but then this is the only place I use where they have flashy similies* (and I am aware they're not as flashy as some sites and quite right too)

Long live traditional smilies I say! :-)

*oh except msn messenger, but you type the original smilies with colons etc into that (which I often do here then realise the alternative)

SatanGeorge · 25/10/2007 20:42

I'm not getting het up Soupy.

I agreed that you should have the choice and now Tech is going to fix that.

I could very easily get pissed of with a lot of peoples' reactions around here to anything to do with my faith, but I tend to resist and take everything in good humour. I think it is only fair that others maybe consider doing the same.

Like accept a slight change to a smiley for a few days (hours now) without threatening to leave the board.

Racers · 25/10/2007 20:42

ah I'm too late, Tech has come good. Nice one!

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 25/10/2007 20:43

You were shouting, StG! That's het up in my book [smirk]
