ermm Tech - re Halloween smilies........

TheQueenOfQuotes · 25/10/2007 18:10

now I don't want to start a mass debate about Halloween.........but I'd just like to say that I don't like being forced to use Halloween smilies when I don't celebrate it.

I really don't want to have to not use them until they're gone (seems to be the only one without ........) is there any way you can have "normal" smilies for those that don't wish to use the "seasonal" ones.......and the current ones for those that do???

No, just my way of getting through to the terminally deaf.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 25/10/2007 20:45

StG I didn't say I was leaving for good - just until they were gone! (you don't honestly think I could hack BW for more than a week did you?????)

And I'm quite happy for you to use your feathery hats for your smilies, but I didn't want to (and now won't have to :-) )

OP posts:
SatanGeorge · 25/10/2007 20:48

Where did I say you said for good?

Oh don't bother, I really can't be arsed to argue.

Next time MNHQ ask me to help out with something I will decline. Bar far the safest option.

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 25/10/2007 20:51

Blimey, that's a bit rude StG [shocked]

You too feel the same way as QoQ when people do something that is contrary to your beliefs or misuse the word "witch" and people are usually apologetic. This is something she feels equally strongly about and you're effectively telling her her beliefs/feelings don't matter.

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 25/10/2007 20:52

The "terminally deaf" bit is what I thought rude.

FrannyandGreenychordCarrier · 25/10/2007 20:56

gawd, cauldrons crucifixes handbags at dawn

TheQueenOfQuotes · 25/10/2007 20:56

hang on a minute - where did I say I was getting at you (it was you that decided to jump on the Christian prayer thread and stick your tuppence in there as well ;-) ) until this thread I didn't even realise that it was you that had drawn them! I just rebooted Mozzilla and there they were (hadn't see the other thread until I'd started this one either).

You're a Pagan, I'm Christian (that doesn't celebrate Halloween). I don't recall making any posts saying that you were odd, strange, wear pointy hats or anything else of the sort and I'm quite happy for you to continue as you are. I don't refer to you as being "terminally deaf" (because you disagree with my beliefs) Or accuse Pagans of having "no sense of humour" (blimey I hope that I'm not mistaken on that one given the superpoke I've just sent you on FB LOL).

I think most of the last 3yrs worth of threads on Halloween have been made up with 75% of the posts from you and me. So really there's no point in going over old ground (again) but I would appreciate it if you didn't make sarcastic comments at me just because I don't wish to partake of festive smilies.

why hasn't the sad smilie got a hat?

TheStepfordChav · 25/10/2007 21:02

QQQ - I'm with you. Don't like 'em.

MaryBS · 25/10/2007 21:07

I want some Christian smileys with a mitre, a biretta, a skullcap and so on

(so long as its OK with the evangelicals... j/k)

MaryBS · 25/10/2007 21:08

And one with a halo for All Saints Day!

boolepew · 25/10/2007 21:13

StG, why did you do them? Do you work at MNHQ? Or are you just super duper clever?
I love them.
The one doesn't have a hat and therefore is sad. If he got a nice new hat he would look like this
Then everybody could only post happy threads, and that just wouldn't do.

2HappyFrighteningPeople · 25/10/2007 21:14

Oh fart. I F5'd and now every smiley has a hat (wanted to know what the fuss was about). How do I un-F5 (have tried pressing f5 again to no avail)

harpsicorpsecarrier · 25/10/2007 21:17

what about a bit of tolerance?
what about - oh I don't really like this, but lots of people think it's a bit of fun, so I shall just tolerate it and get on with things without complaining?
it's worth a shot

southeastastra · 25/10/2007 21:20

exactly hcc, and the do look cute

TheEvilDediderata · 25/10/2007 21:21

I agree, harpsi.

Society is fractured enough. There comes a time when you just have to put up or shut up (in the nicest possible way).

harpsicorpsecarrier · 25/10/2007 21:23

honestly you should try being an atheist at Christmas
then you would really have something to moan about

hunkermunker · 25/10/2007 21:27

Poor overwrought Tech.

Have one of these

And a sponge finger

MaryBS · 25/10/2007 21:44

I could TRY being an atheist at Christmas I suppose, but it would seriously pee my vicar off!

You'll have to excuse me I'm just in a silly mood - so overjoyed at pepperpots' good news that she's still preggo!

MaryBS · 25/10/2007 22:19

SOMEWHERE I've got a smiley in a mitre swinging a thurible, if anyone's interested...

TheQueenOfQuotes · 25/10/2007 23:54

hang on - where did I say that I wanted them gone - or that others should stop using them? That would be intolerant of me.

However, I quite clearly said that if other people want to use them - fine - go ahead - it's just the I don't want to have to choose between no smilies or ones that I'm not comfortable with. That doesn't mean that I should be forced to either not have the option of smilies or use the festive ones.

HC - I'm not sure what being an Atheist at Christmas has got to do with this. You're not told to put up or shut up - you can just buy your present, eat too much and get blindingly drunk without having a nativity scene under your tree ;-)

OP posts:
TheQueenOfQuotes · 26/10/2007 09:39

"what about a bit of tolerance? "

HC - indeed what about a bit of tolerance - towards those that DON'T wish to partake in things to do with Halloween??

It's funny how people have to be tolerant of every other religion/non belief (for the agnostics and atheists among you) but when it comes to Christians - hey you can mock them all you like

I bet if I was a Muslim or Sikh upset about them on religious grounds(although obviously I know they're now "optional") then the derogatory comments towards my thoughts on it wouldn't have been posted. (Sadly I know there are few islamaphobic posters on MN but they're, thankfully, very few and far between) and the majority of posters would be very quick to jump in and say "hey that's their belief don't mock them for it" (or similar - they'd probably word it better than I could) but no - because it's a Christian not liking them it's ok to post negative comments about it........

OP posts:
harpsicorpsecarrier · 26/10/2007 10:25

blimey QoQ you have been overthinking this...
Of course I am tolerant towards those who don't wish to participate in Halloween, just don't! I honestly don't see why you have to make such a fuss about it though, tbh.
and look, all your complaining has worked! the changes have been made.
so probably time to stop moaning I reckon
says the smiling witch
