Never seen that in my life? Is it new?

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/11/2020 18:51

Thanks @SpongeBobJudgeyPants Smile

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 10/11/2020 18:52

Oh, it didn't seem to work for me earlier...Bore, could you pm me back please?

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 10/11/2020 18:54

Thanks Bore. It shows as a pm, but only after you've gone in to the notification system. Ideally it would show separately.

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/11/2020 19:23

Yes, that's annoying, isn't it? Especially as the notifications keep filling up with posts to threads, except you don't know whether it's that or PMs without looking AND it navigates you away from the page/thread you're on in order to find out.

Sparklingbrook · 10/11/2020 19:24

I don't know what it's for and why people think it's so great. I just want to turn it off.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/11/2020 19:25

Makes you wonder who comes up with such genius ideas!

MiddleClassProblem · 10/11/2020 19:32

It’s so annoying! We can see when someone has commented on a thread from I’m on and watching tabs. This makes you think you have messages when if it’s stuff you are not interested in seeing or have already seen. I could understand if it was for @s and quotes. Utterly pointless.

Nefbachmorf · 10/11/2020 19:34

I don't want it, it's annoying.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 10/11/2020 19:35

It's awful and I can't find a way to turn it off! Oh, you mean I'm not supposed to want to turn it off? It's a huge PITA and every time I mark all as read, it goes away for a moment and then comes right back again.
I hope I'm not also getting emails notifying me I'm being notified, that will be the last straw! I daren't check! I'm assuming that if you pay for Premium, you can turn it off and this is being done to annoy you into buying Premium, but it will just annoy me to come off MN.

Elderflower14 · 10/11/2020 19:47

It's annoying... @MNHQ don't like it...Get rid please.

DateLoaf · 10/11/2020 19:53

How do I turn it off please? I don’t want notifications. I do want to know if I get a PM.

DappledThings · 10/11/2020 19:53

I can confirm that having Premium doesn't give you the option to turn it off either. They appear to genuinely think this is a new feature so desirable that nobody would want to turn it off. 🤷‍♀️

BefuddledPerson · 10/11/2020 20:09

Oh this is annoying! I hope it can be made so it can be switched off... pretty please...

TheHoneyBadger · 10/11/2020 20:12

I hate it. I would like to see them gone or at least distinguishable from private messages.

I'm on covers this function.

BefuddledPerson · 10/11/2020 20:18

I'm mildly amused by getting notifications about a thread in which we're all saying we don't want notifications though Grin

TableFlowerss · 10/11/2020 20:55

I thought it was maybe because I’d member for a certain amount of time and that was my reward 🤣 apparently not 😬

OP posts:
LadyCatStark · 10/11/2020 21:05

So frigging annoying, you mark them as read and as soon as someone comments on one of the threads you’re on, they start piling up again 😡

RunningWaterfall · 10/11/2020 21:13

I’d like the option to turn them off as well. Don’t like it at all.

Ginkypig · 10/11/2020 21:44

@EndoplasmicReticulum

I find this annoying. I used to only get a little red number if someone had sent me a message, fair enough. I don't need loads because someone has posted on a thread I'm watching - I can see that by going to the thread I'm watching, funnily enough.
Exactly how am I supposed to tell without regular checking now if I have had a message.

Any threads I’m interested in I have either watched or posted on both of which I have a way to keep a check on them.

DateLoaf · 10/11/2020 22:01

Grin

But seriously why do they want to set it up with no ‘off’ button? I’m not quite sure what behaviour it’s intended to achieve from posters or why having these annoying random notifications.?

Fudgsicles · 11/11/2020 00:16

Yep, hate it too! It serves no purpose when we have 'threads I'm on' etc.

SilkieRabbits · 11/11/2020 02:19

I hate it too - I keep thinking I'll stop pressing it but its so bright and annoying I always press it click mark all then 5 minutes later its back again. Looked how to turn it off and you can't

Stopthebloodynotifications · 11/11/2020 07:28

Let me guess - you can disable this feature in Mumsnet Premium? Hmm

My first guess, too, @Stopthebloodynotifications, but not so, according to @DappledThings, who has experience with Premium Grin MNHQ clearly seems to believe these notifications are A Good Thing.

No. It's on Premium too.
