Site adverts draining battery life

I wonder if this is a recent problem, but I've found that my ipad battery life is draining very fast, I think due to the adverts starting and refreshing automatically. I have no option to suppress them, so I cannot use the site unless I'm by a PC (perhaps a good thing Grin).

Hello @DawnMumsnet, I was wondering: is there any update? On the other thread (www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/a3994693-Recipe-video-constantly-appearing?msgid=99249906#99249906) the message seems to be that we're going to have to grin and bear it, and that it might even be a fixture for logged in users.

Hi OP

We don't have any updates at the minute- sorry. We're recording all of the feedback and passing it over to the relevant teams. Flowers

Hi @LilyMumsnet - any update on this? The pop-up adverts are incredibly annoying.

Flyinggeese · 02/09/2020 12:39

I came back to this thread wondering the same @sausagebap.

LivingOnAPear · 03/09/2020 07:04

It’s very annoying, pops up each time you scroll.

Branleuse · 03/09/2020 07:09

Hardly expect youre going to get much joy asking for annoying adverts to be removed, when MN have quite clearly said they need funding to stay afloat and you can get a premium ad free version, which is what I did. I use MN quite a lot so its been worth it

soniamumsnet · 03/09/2020 10:37

We're sorry that you're finding the video pop-ups to be a pain. We understand that a new style of advert can take a while to get used to, but we have included a close option that will stop the advert from playing.

Obviously, we do need to experiment with the latest formats that are popular with advertisers to generate revenue to support the site but we're going to keep an eye on the responses and obviously we don't want to plough ahead with anything to spoil users' experience of Mumsnet. NB for now at least these are only showing to logged out users - so you can always log in to avoid. Flowers

Flyinggeese · 05/09/2020 11:48

Branleuse That’s a fair point.

FlissMumsnet · 05/09/2020 21:31

Hi Flyinggeese - do feel free to sign up to Premium if you'd like to and can afford to (we know it's not for everyone.)

All the best

I came looking for a thread on this... pop up videos are super annoying! Please make it go awaySad

Flyinggeese · 14/09/2020 17:09

This daft video will be the reason I leave MN. Infuriating but I suppose it’s bringing in money. What’s the point of appeasing advertisers at the expense of users though?

It’s so frustrating. The response above, blithely recommending the premium site, makes me feel like Mumsnet really isn’t listening to its users.

Still seems to be fairly popular tbf
