Why has my MN gone massive?

LunaNorth · 25/06/2020 05:04

I’m using the desktop site on my mobile, and it’s gone enormous!

It’s not my accessibility settings - every other site looks normal.

Is it just me who’s getting this? It’s most offputting!

That has happened to me in the past too but I can't remember how I fixed it, sorry. Was annoying though

LunaNorth · 25/06/2020 05:11

It really is annoying! There’s a thread in site stuff about it so it’s happening to another poster.

I’ve tried turning my phone off and turning it on again...the sum total of my technical expertise has now been reached.

This is a problem known as GIANT MUMSNET and seems to happen from time to time.

madcatladyforever · 25/06/2020 07:27

ou've pressed a combination of keys by mistake, my cat does this to me walking across the keyboard

You shou;d habe two CTRL keys on your keyboard, press both of them and the minus key at the same time and it will get smaller, and the + sign to make it bigger.

If that doesn't work press CTRL ALT -

Good luck.

LunaNorth · 25/06/2020 07:53

@madcatladyforever - thank you but I’m on my phone. Is there a phone equivalent of doing that?

I hate this. Whenever I post I feel like I’m booming at people like an elderly deaf aunt.

Hi @LunaNorth,

Sorry you're having problems with the font size. We're moving your thread over to Site Stuff and have flagged it to our Tech team.

Hopefully we'll be back soon with an update. Brew

Mumdiva99 · 25/06/2020 08:28

When mine does it I have to pinch the screen smaller with 2 fingers. Have you tried that?

Datun · 25/06/2020 10:16

I'm the other poster it's happening to Luna. It is surprisingly disconcerting, as though it's a completely different site.

I get temporary relief by using Safari, rather than Google. Perhaps try that in the interim?

DawnMumsnet · 25/06/2020 13:56

Back again. Don't suppose anyone's able to upload a screenshot, by any chance?

Our Tech team are looking into this now but have also asked if there's a chance you've (all!) zoomed in accidentally - they've suggested closing your browser window and starting a new one, in case it solves the issue.

LunaNorth · 25/06/2020 15:45

Thank you for looking into it. Here’s a screenshot.

Brilliant, thanks @LunaNorth

DawnMumsnet · 25/06/2020 17:47

Hi again @LunaNorth and @Datun

Our Tech team are still trying to work out what this issue is, but in the meantime, they've said:

A few things to try:

  1. Logout & login (yes, that old chestnut) Smile
  1. Clear cache Google support - clear cache and cookies
  1. Check the accessibility settings (we know you've already looked into this, but here are the instructions again just in case) -
3 dots > settings > Accessibility > Text scaling

It might be that there is a random styling bug on some versions of some browsers but those 3 things will tell us if it is.

We'll be back with any more updates asap, but please let us know how you get on.

(And sorry for all the faff!)

LunaNorth · 25/06/2020 19:03

Hi,

I tried all the above and things are still enormous.

If it’s relevant, when I first open it, it looks normal for the first split second and then goes all big.

OP posts:
Datun · 25/06/2020 19:28

Same here. And the same with the split second thing.

As if it's just about to be fine, then No!

LunaNorth · 26/06/2020 04:14

@Datun and @DawnMumsnet

I’ve managed to sort it out. I went to the three dots, clicked ‘more’ then went to Zoom.

Then a plus and a minus sign appeared at the top of my screen. I clicked on the minus and everything went back to normal.

Thanks for trying to sort it out, HQ. Looks like it was something I’d done in the end - but I’ve no idea how!

OP posts:
Datun · 26/06/2020 06:28

Oh, you beauty @LunaNorth.

I hadn't noticed the damn plus and minus at the top of the screen. Blush. So kept thinking it wasn't working and I was doing it wrong.

Thank you!

LunaNorth · 26/06/2020 08:03

That’s ok, @Datun - neither had I until last night. Not sure how I missed it!

OP posts:
DawnMumsnet · 26/06/2020 09:33

Wahay, @LunaNorth and @Datun!

Looks like you've both managed to solve this one. Will tell the Tech team to Stand Down. Grin

SquitMcJit · 26/06/2020 09:58

@LunaNorth and @DawnMumsnet

I’ve got this too and was very excited to find this thread but I don’t know where the “3 dots” are? Help!

Datun · 26/06/2020 12:18

@SquitMcJit

I'm using a mobile phone. For some it appears to be at the top of the screen (and you may only see it if you turn your phone orientation to landscape).

For me it's at the bottom right.

I've got the back button first, then the forward button, and then the plus sign, then The Dots.

This is having opened mumsnet using Google. I had a look how to find the dots using Safari, but couldn't immediately see them.

Go to where your back button would be, and hopefully you'll find them.

SquitMcJit · 26/06/2020 12:47

Sorted! Thanks so much @Datun

DawnMumsnet · 26/06/2020 14:16

Thanks for helping out, @Datun. And glad you're all sorted now too, @SquitMcJit.

We got there in the end. Brew

Datun · 26/06/2020 17:38

Cheers dawn 🥂

I have a similar issue. Chrome on Android with the mobile site. The site goes really wide and/or loses the buttons at the bottom. The first two show the lack of buttons and then how wide they are.
