wtf do the daffodils and chess pieces (pawns?) mean?

Daffodils seem to be being used as a sarcastic version of the Flowers icon on a few threads, in fact they're being used in a similar way to a Biscuit, is that right?

No idea what the chess pawn's about, is it to accuse posters of being mindless pawns? That one isn't on the MN site provided emoji selection but seems to be cropping up on various threads from different user names.

I think the daffs are flowers in support of teachers on the many teacher bashing threads.

I may be wrong though, i also missed the memo

EmpressLangClegInChair · 29/04/2020 12:20

I’m glad someone asked, I was wondering if daffodil is the new biscuit.

cheeseycracker · 29/04/2020 12:25

I've not seen any chess pieces though

Abreadsandwich · 29/04/2020 12:27

I saw a chess piece and I thought it indicated a troll ....but I couldnt work out the connection!

TwistyHair · 29/04/2020 12:30

lol I thought the biscuit was a boob. As in, you’re a boob.

RightOnTheEdge · 29/04/2020 12:35

I think that teachers are posting daffodils on threads bashing teachers.
I've not seen any chess pieces yet.

Chockablok · 29/04/2020 12:39

The pawns signify a dementor thread / poster i.e a person who just wants to suck joy from someone because it makes themselves feel superior.

It's from the "AIBU to think people enjoy patronising others" thread.

Dementor = ♟

BacklashStarts · 29/04/2020 12:40

Daffodil is just for spring but I think teachers are using it specifically. Which one is the pawn?

LynetteScavo · 29/04/2020 12:42

GlitterballArchersTennis

What are these for? Confused

LynetteScavo · 29/04/2020 12:42

Hang on! I don't have a chess piece!

TeenPlusTwenties · 29/04/2020 12:44

Lynette ssshh. Don't say I told you, but the second of those is the sign for The Bull at Ambridge. Temporarily rename TheB @ Ambridge but luckily they saw sense.

SpyApp · 29/04/2020 12:45

All seems a bit odd and unnecessary. It'll descend into schoolyard bitchery you mark my words.Grin
There, I'll give myself a ♟to save anyone the trouble.

BrooHaHa · 29/04/2020 12:47

I'm glad someone asked! I totally missed that memo.

MrsJoshNavidi · 29/04/2020 12:52

I thought the daffodil was for St David's day Blush

user1635482648 · 29/04/2020 12:54

"Teacher bashing"... You mean anything other than glowing praise?

Because on anything even approaching mildly critical or questioning the pathetic little flowers start being posted.

If you want to encourage resentment and distrust it's a good approach.

dementedpixie · 29/04/2020 12:54

I've got no pawn either, just Glitterball and Daffodil

dementedpixie · 29/04/2020 12:55

Is Glitterball supposed to be a coronavirus?

dementedpixie · 29/04/2020 12:55

Says glitterball

dementedpixie · 29/04/2020 12:56

[Pawn]

dementedpixie · 29/04/2020 12:56

Nope didnt work

Puddlejuice · 29/04/2020 12:56

I don't have the pawn.... Is it just people who have paid maybe? So they can signify their importance?

BarkandCheese · 29/04/2020 12:56

LynetteScavo they’re a glitter ball brought in at the request of strictly fans, a bull flag for the Archers fans and I think a tennis ball.

user1635482648 · 29/04/2020 12:57

They're behaving like bullies. Some of the behaviour by posters claiming to be teachers on any thread they deem to be "teacher bashing" is far worse than what they're complaining about.

If these are the same people responsible for addressing bullying in classrooms it explains a lot.

dementedpixie · 29/04/2020 12:57

[Dementor]

iVampire · 29/04/2020 12:57

Daffodil was St David’s Day, to go with Shamrock and Dragon

There was a whole series of Tam o’Shanter emoticons for St Andrew
