wtf do the daffodils and chess pieces (pawns?) mean?

Daffodils seem to be being used as a sarcastic version of the Flowers icon on a few threads, in fact they're being used in a similar way to a Biscuit, is that right?

No idea what the chess pawn's about, is it to accuse posters of being mindless pawns? That one isn't on the MN site provided emoji selection but seems to be cropping up on various threads from different user names.

Dropping by to answer this - but it seems to have moved on to being a general emoji helpline.

But - with regard to the teaching threads and related issues. We've had lots of reports about these, and we're trying to find a sensible middle ground with our moderation.

Many are unhappy at the tone of the threads, seeing them as 'teacher-bashing', others feel that there is a concerted effort being made by some posters to leave no comment (via flower emojis) on parenting discussions. We get loads of reports for both.

We're always happy to have a look to see if posts break our guidelines, but we realise that our members wish to discuss home learning and of course their opinions will be based on their personal experiences. These may not tally with the experiences of professional educators.

To everyone, we suggest clicking 'hide' on the threads if they're causing upset but not breaking guidelines. For those who are teachers, the Staffroom is available for comradely support (we can already see that some are already providing exactly this).

And as always, please do report anything which you feel breaks the Talk guidelines - we're always happy to take a look.
Peace and love.
