Hiding whole topics

Is there a way to hide whole threads? I keep hiding individual coronavirus threads but there are so so many I can't get rid of them all.

OP posts:
strongswans · 12/03/2020 19:30

I'd like to know this too, I'm usually on the app so would like to know how/if I can hide a whole topic on there

iklboo · 12/03/2020 19:30

You can't do it on the app but there is a way on the desktop. I spent a cathartic half hour last night hiding topics. I think it's

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/topic-choice

EstherMumsnet · 12/03/2020 20:24

That's right @iklboo

Shannith · 12/03/2020 22:32

Why can't we do it on the app? The website is dreadful as a user.

LittleBearPad · 12/03/2020 22:33

@Shannith once you’ve hidden them on the website you can use the app with no fear of whatever topic you’ve hidden. Totally worth it!

Redglitter · 12/03/2020 22:34

Unfortunately people are still insisting on posting blooming CV threads all.over the place

Absolutepowercorrupts · 13/03/2020 00:09

I've hidden the Coronavirus topic and all the current threads are still showing in my active conversations.
Why am I still seeing all these threads. I don't want to. THATS WHY I HID THE TOPIC.

Redglitter · 13/03/2020 00:18

I know its maddening. I wish people would stick to the CV section or @MNHQ would move them. It's getting ridiculous

DawsonJumping · 13/03/2020 05:41

I am becoming increasingly anxious with all the (often speculative and inaccurate) coronavirus discussion. I use MN to distract me from my worries, and am finding the high number of threads in Chat and AIBU? difficult to avoid, even if the title doesn’t explicitly state the subject.

@EstherMumsnet is there a way of putting a notice at the top of the page when someone is starting a new thread about coronavirus? Something like:

IF THE THREAD YOU ARE ABOUT TO CREATE IS ABOUT CORONAVIRUS, PLEASE GO TO OUR DEDICATED CORONAVIRUS SECTION HERE (link to it). PLEASE CONSIDER THAT THERE ARE MUMSNET USERS THAT WISH TO AVOID DISCUSSING OR READING ABOUT CORONAVIRUS, SO WE ASK THAT DISCUSSIONS ON THIS TOPIC ARE ONLY LISTED WITHIN THE RELEVANT AREA.’

thecognoscenti · 13/03/2020 07:45

I'm looking to do exactly the same thing. The constant talk about it which dominates the active threads board is just making me feel panicked which frankly isn't helpful.

Please can MNHQ find a way to make hiding a topic easier on the app? The site isn't user-friendly at all and I don't have a home PC so would have to go through the laborious hide thread process at work.

I did it on the desktop site on my phone's browser.

RedTartanLass · 13/03/2020 08:18

I'm finding it difficult to hide the topic on my phone. I'm trying the desktop site but can't find how to do it. If I use the link above it doesn't take me to the desktop site!!

I most report about 4 or 5 a day.

Please MMET when someone is starting a new thread, can there not be a pop up box that reminds them that if it about CV that they must put it in the CV Topic.

We come here for a bit of light relief and escape. We want to read about CFs and Parking Wars.

Not about people cleaning their shopping!!!

crapette · 13/03/2020 08:54

Wanders off to look for thread about cleaning the shopping.....

MichaelMumsnet · 13/03/2020 08:58

On mobile
Scroll down to the bottom of a page - let's say this one, our Talk guidelines
and click on the link that says, 'Desktop site'
Then go to the Topic choice page and make your choice of topics to exclude.

whiskeylullaby2 · 13/03/2020 09:07

I agree. Such repetitive posts too!

RedTartanLass · 13/03/2020 10:26

Thanks Michelle I've done it at last!!

On a side note it was interesting to see all the topics I'd hidden over the 15 years of Mnet!!

ShirleyPhallus · 13/03/2020 10:30

I’ve just posted this on another site stuff thread but I echo the requests to get posters to post in the correct place for CV. Despite hiding the entire board the topic continues to dominate the whole of active conversations. Can’t anything be done about this? They’re not very quick to be moved over and it’s getting a bit anxiety inducing just seeing the topic everywhere when I’m actively trying not to see it!

RedTartanLass · 13/03/2020 11:17

I got told off for sweating on one CV thread!! Told off for swearing on mumsnet!!

Shows you the Calibre of the posters who post about CV! I would like to have a genuine conversation about it, especially how it's going to effect the economy afterwards. But not at the moment. They're too busy washing their shopping and giving loo rolls as presents!! You couldn't make it up!!!

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 13/03/2020 11:48

I've hidden the Coronavirus topic and all the current threads are still showing in my active conversations

Me too! its infuriating! If they are hidden they should be hidden.

Thoroughly sick of all the armchair experts acting like they have the most devastating insight known to mankind, based on their googling.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 13/03/2020 11:50

Red "I got told off for sweating on one CV thread!!"

Sweating? Do you have a cough too? Fever? Has your face fallen on one side? Is your speech slurred? Oh sorry, I think I mixed up my issues there....Grin Grin Grin

RedTartanLass · 13/03/2020 11:57

Omg Buzz sweating? Temp? Coughing? You don't think I've got Spellerisis, do you?

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 13/03/2020 12:02

RUN AWAY WE'RE ALLLLLL DOOOOOOOOOMMED!

crapette · 13/03/2020 15:14

RUN AWAY WE'RE ALLLLLL DOOOOOOOOOMMED!

But please wash your hands first.

Knittedfairies · 13/03/2020 16:17

Thank you @MichaelMumsnet!

RedTartanLass · 13/03/2020 16:44

RUN AWAY WE'RE ALLLLLL DOOOOOOOOOMMED!
