I don't want AIBU update emails

You are at it again. I really don't give a fuck how many people voted in a poll I contributed to. Can you please stop sending unsolicited emails.

Thanks, I have opted out now but agree with others, I never opted in so it is inappropriate to have to opt out now.

This.

It’s bad practice. And a pathetic attempt to capitalise on the supposedly popular draw if AIBU. Cynical. GCSE level social media brand marketing level.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 29/02/2020 23:30

Putting aside for a moment how inappropriate it is that we should have to opt out of something we never opted in to, these are just boring and pointless. It is not credible that there is any demand for this. No one is on the edge of their seats waiting for news on whether an AIBU poll has moved. Not even a flicker of interest. You’re creating irritation, not interest.

StinkyWizleteets · 01/03/2020 09:35

I’ve tried to unsubscribe every time I get an email and have done since they started arriving weeks ago.
It’s a shot feature please bin it or make it opt IN not opt out. It’s intrusive and irritating

HaddawayAndShite · 01/03/2020 09:39

Despite the obvious disregard for GDPR from @mnhq what is more worrying is that they’re completely disregarding the wants of the people using the service. I’ve seen so many of these threads, people unhappy with the process and the change and the invasion of privacy. It’s scary that the user base is so flippantly disregarded as “Mum(snet) knows best”

Rubybluesy · 01/03/2020 09:40

Same here and agreed! I have posted a similar thread, Mumsnet please sort this

PegasusReturns · 01/03/2020 11:16

@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet

“We'll pass on your thoughts around having to opt-out to the development team”

It’s not really a question for your development team it’s a question for your lawyers. You need to comply with GDPR regardless of what your tech capabilities are.

Absolutepowercorrupts · 01/03/2020 13:42

@MNHQ
I opted out and I don't receive updates, I also don't have a vote anymore. that`s a bit irritating.

Dozer · 01/03/2020 13:43

Agree. Stop doing this MN: v annoying spam.

impostersyndrome · 01/03/2020 14:00

Well said @PegasusReturns.

AlexaAmbidextra · 01/03/2020 15:59

Rather than adding new features why doesn’t your ‘tech team’ remedy the existing faults, for instance the two-year failure of the advanced search feature? I am being bombarded with these fucking poll update e-mails that I never agreed to in the first place and typically, the unsubscribe link doesn’t work. Get a grip MNHQ.

Smelborp · 01/03/2020 22:45

I unsubscribed weeks ago from all MNHQ comms after being bombarded with these. I’d tried multiple times to unsubscribe from them. They started again today. I unsubscribed yet again. This is a real own goal.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 01/03/2020 22:49

I unsubscribed this morning or early afternoon but am still getting poll update emails not long ago.

knowmenclature · 02/03/2020 02:28

@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet

I understand that you are looking into the issue of receiving these mails by default.

However, why send extrnal emails at all for post flagging or.voting updates, why not use the pm inbox that all posters have.

I know others, myself included have queried this before, but why is the default to our email addresses instead of the internal pm system?

SnowyPetals · 02/03/2020 05:30

I opted out of this in the past, yet somehow Munsnet has altered my settings to be opted back in. Why is this? I have opted back out, but I shouldn't have to. Under GDPR, opting out is not a temporary state of affairs that Mumsnet can reverse at will. Please explain how someone like me gets opted back in for something I have consciously opted out of.

soniamumsnet · 03/03/2020 11:45

Hi @SnowyPetals sorry to hear you've had problems. Please can you let us know which device you are using, and we'll do our best to get to the bottom of this for you? Smile
