I don't want AIBU update emails

You are at it again. I really don't give a fuck how many people voted in a poll I contributed to. Can you please stop sending unsolicited emails.

Same here. I have enough junk mail without this intrusion adding to my aggravations.

WeAllHaveWings · 28/02/2020 23:14

If you read the email there is a link to update your preferences and not receive them.

impostersyndrome · 29/02/2020 06:54

Thanks, but the link doesn’t work on my device, and more importantly, I never gave MN permission in the first place.

AwdBovril · 29/02/2020 07:45

I agree. I assume this feature has only been added recently as I never got these updates before. Quite annoying that the default option is that users receive the updates, how about assuming we don't, & posting a small notice under the voting box that you need to opt in if you want them? I get quite enough spam already, thanks.

TildaTurnip · 29/02/2020 07:46

Agree! If I want to see then I can go and look. I do not need an email. Nor did I request one.

ShirleyPhallus · 29/02/2020 08:26

Getting this again and driving me mad

Could not give a shit about how many people have participated in an AIBU poll. Someone needs to have a word with your digital marketing manager.

PegasusReturns · 29/02/2020 08:31

Me too - can you make it opt in MN? That would be more appropriate

Me too. And I tried to go into settings and switch them off, but couldn't find anything relevant.

I do not want or need any more spammy emails!

Notajogger · 29/02/2020 08:39

Very surprised that this got suggested and approved internally when they know people want fewer junk emails these days!

ellenpartridge · 29/02/2020 08:48

Mumsnet is terrible for spamming however many times I have clicked unsubscribe!

HoneysuckIejasmine · 29/02/2020 08:51

I unsubscribed last time this was an issue but I still got one this morning.

I know IT changes often have unintended consequences, but I don't know who made this a feature in the first place. You've got plenty of ways for us to follow threads already.

SoupDragon · 29/02/2020 08:57

I don't know what I've done to my settings but I get no spam at all from MN. Or any emails at all actually... 🤔

SoupDragon · 29/02/2020 08:58

I don't get the poll emails because I have voting turned off and thus I have not contributed to any.

Chewbecca · 29/02/2020 09:00

Me neither. And can't find how to switch off either.

I would like to see them in my 'I am watching' list but really, really do not want a blinking email.

LittleBearPad · 29/02/2020 09:01

I’m in this joyous situation. I got a special gmail account just for Mumsnet after one of the hacker Incidents. I never check it - I recommend.

WouldShouldCould · 29/02/2020 09:21

@WeAllHaveWings but why should I have to opt out? I thought GDPR was meant to stop this crap. Also MN must know how badly this has gone down, who seriously cares about the results on a aibu thread after you have read it.

OP posts:
dustibooks · 29/02/2020 09:23

I've already opted out. And don't normally get them.

But I got two yesterday.

SoupDragon · 29/02/2020 09:57

I do agree with this. When I checked my settings I had automatically been opted in but, as I said, I would never receive an email as voting is off.

ShriekingBansheela · 29/02/2020 10:09

The polls are frequently so stupid anyway. Because they remain Opt Out lots of people didn’t even want a poll and haven’t worded the question suitably. Alongside the many people who did want a poll but don’t express themselves clearly enough to make the vote clear.

AIBU has had a very bad effect on the tone and behaviour on MN, and the introduction of polls dragged it down further.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 29/02/2020 15:10

Hello everyone - thanks for your comments. We'll pass on your thoughts around having to opt-out to the development team.

In the meantime, you can opt-out here by unchecking the box that says “notify me when there are updates on AIBU poll”. If you've done this, and you're STILL getting notifications, please let us know.

If the link to opt-out in the email isn't working, we'd really appreciate it if you could let us know what device you're using.

Thank you & apologies for the continued faff...

impostersyndrome · 29/02/2020 15:40

Thanks for the link, @yetanother, as I couldn't for the life of me find where to do this in Settings, but really that cannot possibly be compliant with GDPR, which requires that you ask customers to opt in. I certainly never agreed to this, and find it immensely annoying that this has happened without my wishes.

ShirleyPhallus · 29/02/2020 15:50

Another to agree that these should be opt-in not opt-out

The bigger question is which genius thought that these would be a good idea? Of all the email notifications we might want to receive, an update on an AIBU poll is incredibly low on the list!

Jumperlover · 29/02/2020 16:07

It’s really not hard to update you preferences

SwedishEdith · 29/02/2020 16:11

I changes my mn linked email account to an anonymous one I never check. If you don't need to ever get mn emails, I suggest doing that. I don't ever get @ messages either - which is also fine.
