MNHQ HERE: What do you pack into a ‘Christmas Eve Box’?

LilyMumsnet · 12/11/2019 20:14

Hi all,

MNHQ here with another seasonal request! Don't get too sick of us - still got the Christmas name change competition, yet. Wink

Our wonderful video team are at it again and this time, they're making a very merry video on what to put into a Christmas Eve box.

We have a vague idea of what goes into these festive boxes but we'd really like to hear YOUR thoughts! These are children's boxes, so let's keep it child-friendly...

Anyway, you snow the drill. Drop your favourite items down below and watch this space - a video will soon follow.

P.S If you don't know what we're going on about, a Christmas Eve Box is a box given to children on Christmas Eve. It's usually filled with all the ingredients to make a perfectly jolly evening. So get posting!

All of the above - plus some fluffy Xmas slipper socks, and marshmallows for the hot choc.

GorkyMcPorky · 12/11/2019 20:57

Snowman soup of course. It dates back to my first MN Christmas Eve box in 2010.

Any recommendations for a good Christmas film MNers? We've got all the usuals and annoyingly watched The Nutcracker and the Four Realms this weekend before I realised it would've been a great addition.

Here you go - from the Mnetters themselves.

This year PJs and Christmas selfie sticks. I've tried movies but they are just too excited to concentrate on them.

JPduck · 12/11/2019 21:14

Pjs
Sometimes new dressing gown if needed
DVD - we watch once box opened
Popcorn
Haribo
Slippers
Night before Xmas story - same book is added in box each year.

We use a wooden crate which has JPDucks family Xmas eve box

Slippers, pjs are not brought through out the year only at Xmas.

We also make it a family box, so mum/ dad get new slippers and a treat to eat whilst watching the family DVD

DeanImpala67 · 12/11/2019 21:46

New pyjamas
A christmas themed book
A family board or card game
Hot chocolate sachets
Marshmallows
Reindeer food
Santa's plate and milk bottle
Santa's magic key for the door as we don't have a chimney

katienana · 12/11/2019 21:51

We time the xmas eve box with the departure of the elf. So we head out for a walk, I forget something, grab box, hide elf. When we all return later elf has left a goodbye note and the box.
New pjs
Bath bomb or novelty bubble bath
Chocolate
Night before Christmas
One year the elf included a disco light as his name is Disco.
I keep it simple, it's mainly to get them excited to have their bath and put pjs on.

Talkallday · 12/11/2019 22:20

anothermansmother · 12/11/2019 23:04

Pjs
Fluffy socks

Festive mug
DVD Christmas themed
The under the Christmas picture from the previous year
Some kind of game (uno/ cards)
The Christmas plate and glass (for all of your mince pie and carrot needs)
And a pass the parcel gift. ( that we play just before bed, I've learnt that my family are very competitive, and we see who can buy the most random one)

Miljea · 12/11/2019 23:16

I couldn't get into that judgemental, spy'y little shite, the Elf, but actually were mine younger, I can see how a Christmas Eve box/ thing might work; especially if it becomes a 'wheel it out, every year' thing (so you don't have to think about it!).

As an old lady, what I want is a reliable, traditional Christmas Eve church service, where I can attempt the highest notes of 'Oh come let us adore Him'.... always appreciated, me making that effort... 😂

TheOliphantintheRoom · 12/11/2019 23:19

Are we the only family in the UK who don't get new pyjamas every Xmas?

TheOliphantintheRoom · 12/11/2019 23:21

Grin Me neither!

GrotbagsBetterLookingSister · 12/11/2019 23:33

Are we the only family in the UK who don't get new pyjamas every Xmas? mine do but only because they've outgrown, or worn out, last year's. We don't do it on Xmas eve though; we wait until January when they're cheaper!

BackforGood · 12/11/2019 23:58

Are we the only family in the UK who don't get new pyjamas every Xmas?

No.
Or, if they need them, then they will be part of their Christmas presents, on Christmas day.

MsPavlichenko · 13/11/2019 01:29

Seriously? Absolutely sweet fuck all.

Lots of opportunity for stuff the next day. Fond memories of Xmas jammies erc to wear on Xmas night. We don't need so much consumption imo. And so many can't in any case.

blackteaplease · 13/11/2019 06:08

Hot chocolate, DVD, jammies, snacks,, sometimes a mug or Christmas decoration. Reindeer food, our Santa sign.
